Ben Simmons says he didn't learn anything at LSU, waste of his time

Ben Simmons, the highly-touted Philadelphia 76ers forward who spent a year on LSU’s campus during the 2015-16 season, says he didn’t learn much as a Tiger. “I think I would have learned a lot more being around professional athletes,” Simmons says in an interview with Uninterrupted. “Looking at it now I don’t even really know what I learned financially or just being a person at LSU. I think I’ve learned a lot more with this whole year being in Philly and being a pro than I did at LSU.” Simmons, who was open about being a “one-and-done” student-athlete at LSU, had trouble academically while at the university. He made clear his distaste for the current college athletics system in a documentary released last year that chronicled his senior year of high school through the NBA draft. Simmons, originally from Australia, went to high school at Montverde Academy in Florida before attending LSU for a season. In his latest interview, Simmons tells Uninterrupted the NCAA is a “dirty business” and if he had not gone to college “a lot of people would be losing money.” He says he was also fed up with the media attention and requirements when he was a student. “I‘d have class and go lift, go practice, then ‘Oh, Ben you got to stay here and do media and the photo shoot.’ So I’d be kind of annoyed like ‘What am i getting out of this?’” Simmons was drafted first overall in the 2016 draft by the 76ers but sat last season with a foot injury.

As I posted yesterday in the SECR thread about this:
Learning involves effort on the part of the person being taught. His comments say more about him that they do about LSU.

I love his basketball but his attitude and demeanor rubs off in a bad way and makes him extremely unlikable
I think we all know he didn't give a rats arse about LSU. It was just a small step to move on. Nothing more
he had zero intentions on winning a natty in college. All it was was a showcase for him and his talents. It was never about LSU as a school or changing a culture for LSU basketball.
Ben doesn't even really knowledge or affiliates with LSU in any way at all now
I was happy LSU could watch a superior athlete play but the end results or nothing to be proud of
IMO I really have a difficult time acknowledgin him as a true LSU Tiger

Ben could have went pro instead of going to Monteverde. I think LSU needs to move on from him also. He clearly does not want to be affiliated with the school.

Ben was the biggest disappointment LSU has seen in quite some time. He had one good game against North Florida, but other than that, he was terrible. I could legit beat him in H-O-R-S-E.

Jesus you're an idiot

Totally agree. Would be a total shocker if he ever comes back to Baton Rouge. Doesn’t matter to me either way to be honest.

Why isn't Shaquille O'Neal as bitter about his college experience as Ben? He would have been drafted the same out of high school. I've never heard him say anything but great things about his experience here, though.
Weird

What a fricking idiot.

I mean, it was clear all along that he didn't want to be here. And I think he has a point with this...
It's not LSU's fault, but yeah, the kind wanted to go to the NBA and if the NBA didn't have a rule against it, some team definitely would have taken him.
So yeah, no ill will to the kid. Not a fan of his, but he's certainly not the only one who thinks the one and done rule is bullshite, and I agree with that point in certain ways at least.

Ben? Is that you?

I'm thinking Ben doesn't value education at all

The article in the Business Report makes it sound like he's bitter toward LSU, but it's really the NCAA and system in general. He didn't have to go to school, could have played professionally overseas for a year, but he chose a year of college so that he could get more exposure. A guy with that talent doesn't belong in college, and I do think the system ought to be changed so that the one and dones aren't in college either.

Why not make the best of what the situation is instead of being a bitter crybaby about it, though.
How much did someone like Shaquille increase his marketing value by embracing the college experience?
Hell, plenty of the one-and-done guys have done the same as well. Anthony Davis always talks fondly about his one year at Kentucky.
Why does this dude think he's so freaking special?

Obviously not, he skipped a lot of classes
We all knew he didn't care about education. It was just a quick 8 month stint to move on to the NBA

The difference in Anthony Davis and Ben Simmons is one is a humble team player and nice guy, and the other is from Austrailia

Simmons was a bitch and will always be a douche. Didn't care for him at LSU, was happy to see him leave. I'm sure he enjoyed tiger land though.

Ben Simmons just has a shitty attitude who most certainly hasn't thrown his last fit. Let him go. He's moved on and so have we. He'll probably be a coach killer in the league and will bail on Philly the second his rookie contract + option is up.

He doesn't. He was born and raised in Australia. He could have stayed in Australia and been eligible right out of high school as an international player.
What did he get out of it? A couple of years' worth of publicity, that may not have made him the #1 pick, but it did increase his worth in terms of endorsements.
He got years of being talked up as the best player in the country.
