He needs to recruit a couple of white 3 pt shooting guards like OM has and many top teams have. Carter is a good player/shooter, but we need sharpshooters that are set up to fire away. Why do I say white..because they aren't generally recruited or get to this level on athetic ability only..which is generally what LSU team is made up of. We have athletes, not basketball players. We have light in the rear bigs, and no one inside that can control the lane and rebound consistently. Our bigs are skinny and can jump, but are easily moved out of rebound position. we need dangerous shooters and rebounders. We don't have either.

I find it a little alarming that every season there has been a player with a role who quits. Hill, cook, or ward, but at the same time, the demeanor of the coaches isn’t really discipline. It’s a bit odd

We should be more angry with Woody b/c he made an atrocious hire and an even worse contract.

He has very little talent, and that is his fault.....I think he would do well if the talent level was better.

Tim Golden was hired at Florida at the same time as McHallman was at LSU.

Golden's name was mentioned as one of the finalists for the LSU job.

Three years later, Golden has the Gators at #3 in the AP Poll with a 20-3 record.

And........we all know where McHallman has the Tigers.

And has defeated two teams ranked #1 this season. He has double the wins over #1 ranked teams than CoachMc has total SEC wins this season. Unbelievable.

If I’m golden, I’m choosing Florida over lsu every time.
We can pine over all the potentials all we want, but lsu was not a destination spot at that time. If I’m choosing between those schools I’m taking Florida, mizzou, miss st., then LSU

Yeah Woodward really missed the boat on Golden,if he would have done his homework comparing Mcloser to Golden he would have hired Golden. HE went to San Francisco and completely rebuilt them Mcloser had for 4 out of 7 years with a losing record and didn't do well but the year before he came to Lsu he went like 33-1 and so he became a hot name plus his team happened to beat Goldens San Fran team in the Ncaa tournament in Double overtime. But if Woody would have done his job he would have seen that Golden would have been the better hire, instead we got Mcloser and this fricking garbage dumpster fire way to go fricking woody!

The hire was a miss. It isn't the first time a mid-major HC hasn't worked out at a major conf. school, and it won't be the last. The contract itself is FAR from "atrocious" relative to not only the rest of college basketball, but the SEC. McMahon is the lowest or second to lowest paid HC in the SEC (depending upon what the Vandy coach is paid...which we don't know). LSU didn't "overpay" for McMahon at the time of hire. It was a reasonable number within the marketplace. It's the seven years that are frustrating because McMahon has proven to be so bad there seems to be no dispute LSU has to dump him after just 3 seasons, but LSU probably didn't have a ton of leverage in the negotiations at the time.

Nearly all of his HS kids have been top 100 players.

Not really entirely true, and there's also a difference in a player ranked in the 60s, 70s or 80s than the 20s or 30s generally speaking. McMahon has kind of lived in that 50-100 range of high school player, he has not landed an elite 5-star kid. Using 247...

For 2024 he landed Rob Miller, Givens and Vyc Miller were all ranked in the 80s, we also added a JUCO player in Boyde who obviously has been pretty meh

For 2023 he landed Chest (just inside top 100), and Williams (#119)

For 2022 he landed Ward (#41) and Reed (#77) inside the Top 100 but Phillips and Cornelius Williams were pretty well outside the top 100.

So thats 3 high school players outside the Top 100, 4 if you throw in JUCO Boyd who I don't think anyone would consider a Top 100 type of player equivalent in high school.

I mean his 2022 class is essentially wiped out right now, so that's one of the biggest things that hurt him. But overall while the talent brought in looks pretty good, it hasnt been particularly high end talent in any cases. Ward was the closest ranked player to something like that, but he never materialized to that ranking and quit.

lol, under normal circumstances, no. But with potential sanctions I can find a positive spin off of being geographically closer to Memphis

That guaranteed scoring drought sure took place at a terrible time, the last 3:15 of the game.

The message delivered by the OP is certainly correct as McMahon should have known better than to leave Chest in the game as he represented an easy target for the Rebels to foul. His missed free throws, of course. And his ill advised technical foul really hurt the team.

McMahon has made some baffling player personnel moves throughout this season. Another one is wasting away Mike Williams on the bench for that three or four game stretch.

I had been more patient with McMahon than many, but his terrible coaching performance throughout this season should cost him his head coaching job.

Is that because they were overrated as players, or just poorly coached/developed? Either McMahon has a knack for consistently finding the most overrated HS prospects, or he's the anchor that is holding them back. I think the answer is pretty clear to anyone willing to pay attention. While none of his teams have had top of the SEC talent, the talent level has been FAR better than what McMahon has gotten out of them...which is a LSU career sub .500 overall record and sub .300 SEC record.

I have ZERO doubt in my mind that if you gave Bruce Pearl LSU's roster and McMahon Auburn's roster, Pearl would beat McMahon convincingly.
