Do many people just tailgate (without going into the football games)?

I do enjoy the game day experience, but am growing a lot less tolerant of the morons in the stadium...
I am thinking it might be fun to just beef up the tailgate and watch the game from there while cleaning up during the game...
does anyone have experience doing this?...

I go to maybe 1 or 2 games a season and tailgate at all of them. I seriously can't imagine being in BR on a saturday that's gameday and not tailgating. That just doesn't make sense to me.

Probably 70 to 80 thousand.

I generally have more fun tailgating than watching the game. I love hanging out, drinking all day. We rarely go to games but are at our tailgate weekly.

agree completely...it is kind of strange, but I find myself looking forward to the tailgating more than attending the game this year...I guess I am getting old!...

I hear this consistently, but frankly, I am not sure I believe it...at least in my tailgate area, the place is pretty much deserted while the game is going on...

I look forward to the tailgates just as much, if not more these days as well. That's why I really like night games. We have a good sized tailgate each year and when we can tailgate that much longer, it's a lot of fun. I've been to shitloads of games and still LOVE going, I just don't feel the need to always go and am happy watching it at the tailgate or going to a restaurant/bar when it starts.

People go to a friend's house or a bar to watch it if they don't go to the game. Not THAT many people have TV setups outside the stadium. It also means you aren't in traffic after the game.

same here, I was actually reluctant to leave the tailgate a few times last season to head to the stadium.

Yes. I think the police said they expected 120,000 people tailgating for a game last year. 92,000 seats

More like 40,000. Not 70 to 80.

LSU fans would rather tailgate than go in the stadium. That's embarrassing.

i actually prefer tailgating and NOT going to the 7pm kickoffs. i usually tailgate all day and then go home for the game.
however, for the 230pm kickoffs, i will go to the game and continue the tailgate afterwards.

You're tired of watching the offense too I see

I won't turn down tickets to stay at a tailgate, but if I don't have tickets I am not at all disappointed to stay at the tailgate and watch the game there!

Reading here & on several other posts that more & more Tiger fans prefer to drink & party than go to 7 games a yr. That's why Tiger Stadium is not even close to what it used to be & unfortunately never will be again. Yet many of these same fans stand up & beat their chests about how great Tiger Stadium is. I can understand all the reasons given for giving up season ticktes, i.e. ticket prices too high, morons in the stadium, heat, kickoff time, etc. But when our fans just prefer to drink & party, that is embarrassing.

We always watch the game at our tailgate spot. I can watch the game, keep drinking, eating, and I have all the space I want to stretch out. Depending on the game, we usually have anywhere from fifteen to fifty people watching the game with us.

Some fans realize the game is entertainment, and their self worth isn't determined by the outcome. Thank god we have fans like you to pick us up.

No it's not. It's part of the changing landscape of sports. 25 years ago we didn't have every LSU game broadcast on HD tv, with dozens of other games to follow during breaks. All sports and venues have seen more people watch games at home. There are still plenty of fans to pack stadium to get the gameday atmosphere one or twice a year.
But more and more of the passionate fans are watching at home bc of HD, DVR, improved tv production, real-time scores. Which is why stadiums empty earlier less interested fans attending
