the home team dugout was always on first base side. but

KEY POINTS
The dugout side is entirely up to the home team and there is no official rule dictating this.
Traditionally, the home team sits in the dugout on the first-base side of the field. This tradition dates back to the early days of baseball.
It’s not uncommon to see the home team sitting in the dugout on the third-base side, as some ballparks have unique designs or histories that make this a better location.
The home team dugout location can have a big impact on the game. From strategic advantages to practical considerations such as shade and communication with coaches.

This has to be the only stadium in America that does this. Prove me wrong but this is really odd. More shade lol

In the little ballpark where I played Dixie youth the first base dugout faced west and was the visitor dugout for that reason.

You honestly remember that from Dixie youth. WOW

Thanks to all - I am 85 and suffering from memory loss (still better than Biden tho) - and I kept being confused about where some hitters threw their bats after a hit. Took me a while to make sure the 'home' team was really going back to 3rd base dugout.
thought process = "surely I didn't remember that right" - a dozen times!!!! -
- so I just DDGed it.

Where I grew up, the home team was always third base. Head coach was the third base coach so it made sense that he was near dugout. As I got older, I realized that In MLB and college it varies. I believe most SEC schools use the third base dugout.

I always thought traditionally the 3rd bas dugout was the home team. Seems to me there were issues at the box during regionals a long time ago...maybe it was when LSU was visitor and wanted their dugout though

For regionals the NCAA would make whatever the home dugout for the host team was the designated home team dugout for the tournament and even the host team would have to use the visitors dugout if they were the visitors in the game. They changed it to where the host team can use their dugout for all of their games.

The stadium was built for this tournament so I’m sure unlike most stadiums in the country both dugouts and amenities for the dugouts are exactly the same so it makes sense for them to just allow the hike team to choose where they want to be.

Pittsburgh Pirates dugout is on 3rd base side, directly facing the city skyline.

almost half the teams in MLB use the 3rd base side as the home dugout.

In South Louisiana, if you had a choice between baking in the sun and staring directly at it while watching a game, or being in the shadow with a clear view....
which one you're taking?

Third base dugouts were always the traditional home team dugout when I played little league and softball.
The two oldest Major League parks are split on their layout.
Wrigley - 3rd base dugout
Fenway - 1st base dugout
I don't there is any rule regarding that, however.

12 of 30 MLB teams have 3B home dugout. Many college teams do as well. Auburn comes to mind as at least one of the SEC teams.

In the old Box, there was no choice but to make the first base side the home dugout with the team facilities. The railroad tracks were right down the third base side, and there was very little room.

Traditionally 3rd base but some teams use 1st base. The Astros dugout is on the 1st base line.

LSU uses first base because in the old box, that’s where the could build because of the train tracks.

I played 4 years in HS (South Louisiana) and our side was always third base dugout . As far as the away games, i don't have a clue.
ChineseBandit58 you are 2 years senior to me. If you attended LSU we may have been there at the same period for a couple years. Me-entered fall '57, Grad fall '60. Just a student-no athletics. As always, Geaux Tigers.
