Found this list of starting QBs at LSU. The list stops at 2008, so obviously add JJ to 2009 and 2010.
Name the 3 best and 3 worst from this list. I'll go with Bert Jones, Tommy Hodson and Alan Risher. Apologies to Jordan Jefferson, Josh Booty and Billy Broussard.

Definitely need to factor in rushing statistics for some of these guys…

Jones, Hodson and Russell the best. Though you can make an argument for Davey (but he only was a full time starter 1 year) Same argument for Flynn.
Tyler also just out of the top three wasnt as good a passer as the others but made up for it with running and decision making.
In my mind the 3 worst are pretty clear cut.
Broussard, Lyons, Jefferson.

I understand the love for Bert Jones and all but I'll take what Rohan, Mauck and Flynn did statistically and what those teams accomplished in their one full year as starters over Bert.
Did Jamie Howard really start for 4 years? Thank God that was right around the time I got married and started having kids to distract me a little from LSU football or I might have committed suicide.

Passing wise, yea. Some of those guys had some running to go with everything. Herb Tyler was a underrated QB, IMO. He seemed to make the big throw when we needed them.

Over Russell?

The worst that I have personally witnessed since I matriculated at LSU in 1994:
(1) Marcus Randall
(2) Jordan Jefferson (to date - he could redeem himself)
The best I have seen in the same time period:
(1) Russell;
(2) Davey;
(3) Flynn.

You really can't go by those stats shown, IMO. You need the entire body of work. Also, they don't have a stat for everything. No stat for clutch.

Josh Booty had over 300 attempts and still couldn't crack 2000 yards. He was immobile and made bad decisions. He's far and away the worst QB we've had.
The top three are Jones, Russell, and Hodson.

Best
Risher, Mauck, Flynn (the last two delivered NCs); Risher could have if he had better material around him.
I did not include Jones because he shared time with Paul Lyons, and was characterized by MacLendon as not being that coachable. Actually in subbing for an injured Buddy Lee in the Orange Bowl, Jones cost LSU and MacLendon a shot at an NC with a checkoff on a fourth and short against Nebraska. It had been a freaky day in the bowls and AP had told both locker rooms that things had fell in such a manner that whoever won the game would be the AP champion. Things were never really the same between MacLendon and Jones after that game, and in fact, Charley Mac started Paul Lyons the next season until they got to the Notre Dame game, in which Jones would get the nod.
It would have been intertesting to see what Mike Miley would have done if he would have hung with us for more than a year.
Worst
The Pat Lyons/Bobby Moreau combination
Tie between Marcus Randall and Carl Otis Trimble
and worst of all - Josh Booty

Over Russell?
Not only would I choose Risher over Russell, but I had more confidence in Herb Tyler, Rohan Davey, Matt Mauck or Matt Flynn.

Rationale: consistency.
If this is your rationale than Herb Tyler, Rohan Davey, Matt Mauck should definitely not be ahead of Russell.

Anyone who thinks Josh Booty is not the worst QB at LSU must not have watched him play.
Posted on 6/23/11 at 2:27 pm to CajunFootball
Bert Jones. Some of the rest were so-so, but none close to his passing ability.
Posted on 6/23/11 at 2:27 pm to RogerTheShrubber
Man, Jeff Wickersham was about the most consistent QB we have on this list in terms of yardage...I wish I could remember why his TD totals were so low.

Worst : Pat Lyons
Billy Broussard
Sol Graves
Bobby Moreau
Best: Bert Jones
Matt Mauck
