Facemask penalty

It was a facemask by the definition of the rule. But for the love of God, can we please go back to 5 yard incidential face mask and 15 yard personal foul face mask (following through, bringing player to the ground or starting the process).
Hell, give the 5 yard incidental face mask a first down, I don't care. But the severity needs between incidential and personal foul needs to be in the game again.

Is this really what you are bitching about right now?

I'm not mad or upset. I love LSU, but I am no longer emotionally invested. I want them to win. I will watch them, but I don't get upset anymore. I turned the game off in the 3rd quarter to watch political shows.

i think you have to remove the situation and look at it for what it was.
this penalty is called 10 times out of 10.
It just so happened to be at a pivotal point in the game for LSU

I agree, the penalty should have been called, and it should be called every time it happens.
My point is that there is a distinguishable difference between incidiental and personal, yet the rule makes both 15 yards and an automatic first down.

no shite, that was a face mask, plain and simple, but it did not result in the 42-13 slaughtering

i feel you, but i think most facemask penalties are incidental in nature

Yes, there should be a difference between an incidental brush or touching and a pull or twist. They had it right before....5 yards or 15 yards. They make a distinction when the punter is hit. Oh, and BTW, how many times has a runner stiff armed into the face mask of the tackler and they don't call a brush or touching there do they? Completely inconsistent how they handle the defense and offense on face mask calls/no calls.

True, but some players touch the facemask and remove their hands while others rip the player’s helmet off.
I see what you mean, there’s probably no difference in intent there, but I think there should be a difference in severity of penalty. Look at what happened to the poor dude for Georgia tech who got obliterated simply because his helmet was twisted halfway around his head due to a facemask

Right. But there is already a stipulation in the rule that this should not be ruled a penalty

At the end of the day, penalties do not matter.
WE can't run, block, tackle, or kick..... period.
