TJ Finley in the transfer portal

Feels like not all that long ago that TJ Finley was locked in a QB battle as a true freshman and was crowned our future after having a near perfect game against USCe in his first ever college game. He then proceeded to be extremely mediocre, transferred to Auburn for two years to still be mediocre to bad (tho credit for taking Bama to 4OT), one decent year at Texas State, then transferred to WKU to be the backup, then committed to Tulane in December only to get arrested for charges of stealing a car (?) and is now back in the portal after never playing a down for them. OH and he has two years of eligibility left. Over/under on how many more schools he goes to?

Seeing the post on Rickie Collins winning the job at Syracuse only for Steve Angeli of ND to transfer in just reminded me that another former LSU QB is having an even crazier portal experience lol.

I hate all of this, it’s been 5 years of this BS and still feels like there’s no reins on anything

At least the players are finally getting paid what they are worth.

There has to be some kind of middle ground where players can still make some money but it's not as crazy as what we have now.

I like the idea of everyone getting one free transfer then after that you need to sit out a year if you transfer again unless if the head coach leaves.

Agreed. Make some money, get sponsorship deals, but the whole “NIL collective” funded by donors giving high schoolers who’ve never played a snap of college football millions of dollars? That seems outrageous. And that’s not the worst part. The free market transfer system makes it all worse (see: Nico). I agree, one free transfer and afterwards it’s case by case but you’d have to sit in most cases. Bring at least some of the amateurism back

Wouldn't mind having a senior back-up QB presence on the team this year.

I have no idea why I remember that USCe game so well but it was bizarre how bad the Gamecock defense was - like they started off in “prevent defense” and just let TJ complete all the 8 yard hooks he wanted to, the whole game. I also think that D-coordinator got fired mid-season.

Adding buyouts would help.

How? Covid basically took the 5 to play 4 and changed it to 6 to play 5.

2020 - COVID year
2021 - played 9 games
2022 - played 4 games, qualifies for a redshirt
2023 - played 11 games
2024 - played 3 games. Was he granted a medical?

Finley honestly isn’t the best poster child of the crazy money driven CFB transfer experience. He was a bust in the SEC despite trying to achieve that level of play, got screwed at Texas State, then never really got his bearings and made a dumb decision at Tulane forcing him to go yet again. Most of his transfers are understandable and not everyone is cut out for this sport

I was about to make this same post

I thought you don’t get granted those until you’ve exhausted eligibility and then apply for the additional year.

But hey TJ, live it up. There’s worse things than 7 years of college on someone else’s dime.

AND, the obsession with ex-LSU players continues.

Seriously, do we need a few threads on every potential transfer for every ex-player? It's pretty sad to see this continuous "let me try this team" cycle. Maybe just get a degree and work hard at something other than sports.
