Yes. Menard, his nickname was Doogie and he attended Shaw with my Son and Stepson. he and his family lived across the street from us in Marrero for about 4 years.
Good kid and fine family. His death stunned everyone.

Didn't that Ole Miss player, Chucky Mullins, get paralyzed from an injury during a football game? I remember when he died.

Yes. It was the 1989 game vs Vandy. He went head first making a tackle and shattered 4 vertebrae. He died less than 2 years later.

Who was the LSU football player who was paralyzed, and then his dog accidentally knocked loose/turned off his breathing apparatus?
Chris Beard WR 95-97 was paralyzed while playing in arena football game. His puppy playing on the bed disconnected his oxygen.

I agree that statistically it might be normal, but we probably care and remember more than other schools do. Once a Tiger, always a Tiger.

I had no knowledge of Bo Rein being hired by LSU at the time of his death. I was in college at the time and didn't pay much attention and I guess the fact he never got to coach a single game at LSU led me to think he was still at NCSU. I did recall the flight being in La. but never put it all together. That is truly a tragedy. While we will never know how his career would have gone he sure looked like an up-and-comer. The whole flight thing is so eerily similar to Payne Stewart's death...
Tough stuff...
