Full LSU (Men's) Basketball Schedule has been announced

Yes, it's less than two weeks away from the full start of football season. Yes, I'm excited for that. No, we don't care that you don't care enough about basketball to post about how much you don't care about basketball.
But, for the dozen or so of us that do care about basketball we at least have something to talk about for the next 15 minutes. The full OOC schedule was announced a few weeks ago. The SEC schedule just came out today *The midweek SEC games (Tues/Wed) are currently listed in an either/or fashion because the networks haven't finalized their decisions.

Snap reaction. LSU only has one true non-conf. road game (K-State). Florida St is at home and SMU is a "neutral" site game, in Texas. The rest of the non-conf home schedule is nothing special. Looking at it...on paper...on 8/20...LSU needs to go at least 11-2 in the non-conf. schedule. The probable 2 losses being @ KSU and 1 of the 2 games at the Greenbrier tournament. Anything less will be pretty disappointing for a program we are looking to take a step forward.
The SEC schedule is a bit odd. 4 of the first 6 games are on the road. But at least one of those games should be fun with Cal (Arkansas) coming to the PMAC. Hopefully LSU can go at least 3-3 in those first 6. The second 6 games have 3 at home and 3 on the road. At Arkansas will be tough, but if LSU can hold serve at home and win @ UGA, or at least go 3-3, it would set them up nicely for the final 6 games...4 of those being at home.
LSU only plays Alabama once this year (of course it's a Coleman Coliseum...where LSU simply doesn't win). Aside from that, the road games don't seem overly brutal as a whole. Auburn, Tennessee, and Texas all come to BR for the only matchups that season. Kentucky is on the road late, but no one knows what kind of team UK will have this year.
IF, this is McMahon's most talented team, and IF he's now more comfortable in year 3 in the SEC, a record of at least 21-10 (10-8) doesn't seem outlandish, right? If so, that should at least put them in the NCAAT conversation.

February looks fun starting with a home game against UTx & ending with a home game against UTn.
20+ wins would be great
20+ wins would be great

Really feel like those first three SEC games are vital for setting the tone for the conference schedule. You go 3-0 or 2-1 in those first three, and that gives the team some confidence going into those last 4 january games because thats a tough stretch. Team gets punched in the mouth in those away games and goes 1-2 or heaven forbid 0-3 and you could easily start off SEC play with 5-6 losses in January

Do we have the dogs to get to the NCAAT? Just glanced at the roster online, looks about like last year (middle of SEC pack and NIT/bubble type team).

Actually really excited for this season. This should be a tournament team.

Alt, you always have solid observations during MBB season and I respect your insight. What's your opinion on McMahon's future after this year at LSU if they end up being nowhere near the discussion of on the bubble for NCAAT? At what point do you think Woody should cut bait and move on?
With the transportal portal environment now in MBB, the traditional philosophy for giving someone extended time to be more competitive/routinely making NCAAT are null and void IMHO. Times have changed.

Even in year 1 McMahon started SEC play well. That season he beat ranked Arkansas team at home to start SEC play, then went to Kentucky and played pretty well in a loss. It was after that when the wheels fell off. Last year LSU didn't play all that well in OOC play (blown out by almost everyone with a pulse). Then they start SEC play by going to A&M and kicking their arse...en route to a 3-1 conference start....before then losing 3 in a row.
To me, it's maybe a little indicative of McMahon having a good pregame plan, but being slow to adjust when opponents counter. He never adjusted in 2023, and went 1-6 last year after that 3-1 start (albeit against really good opponents) before finding some success late.
This is year 3 for him in the SEC. Yes, the rosters now change dramatically from year to year. But he's now seen most of these coaches multiple times. Seen the talent level relative to mid-major level. Seen how they adjust. There are almost always some unexpected results at the beginning of SEC play. It's the coaches who can quickly adjust their teams who often have success. That has to happen this season if LSU wants to have some success.

It would be the end of year 3 of a 7 year contract. In a sport where fortunes can change so dramatically from year to year because of the significant roster turnover, a 3rd year of no success should at least beg the question of if McMahon can ever make it at this level? This year there are 7 new players. That's likely going to be the case next year simply because of the nature of the sport.
All of the probation stuff is over after this year (and it was largely meaningless any because LSU got around the scholarship penalties). The program is already mired in apathy (just look at how many people don't care at all about this discussion). I don't think you can ignore another year of that.

He needs a big year, he needs the tournament. This will be his best roster yet. He made a 7 game improvement last year. I think the staff is improved, and they brought in a good freshman class. If player development continues I think they have a chance

Excited for this year, will start SEC play at home with a W vs Vandy. Mac bringing in a good freshman class, we'll have some shooters in this class. Think we got a good shot at NCAA tourney this year.

No Mcneese, no care. Scotty doesnt have the chest to schedule that.

LSU and SMU in Frisco…. First I have heard of this.

We have got to do something in the OOC this season. Last year we went 9-9 in a decent sec with 3 pretty good wins and were still kenpom 100 because of the shite kickings we took in the early season. GD.
Need to hit the season running this year. I'm expecting a pretty strong team, time to cook up something.

I know some think this would never happen, but it will be interesting if McMahon doesn’t make the tournament this year and Will Wade has another banner year at McNeese. As many people say Wade will never be back - I’m not so sure that’s set in stone….

Good thread:
10-3 non conf is reasonable.

Man, home OOC schedule still sucks - we play Fla. St. at home only because it's part of the SEC/ACC challenge.
As a long time season ticket holder I really wish there would be some effort to improve in this regard:
Remove the mandated Fla St. game and its:
ULM
Alabama St.
Charleston Southern
Northwestern State
Florida Gulf Coast
Stetson
UNO
Mississippi Valley St.
It's definitely not just a CMM thing this has been going on with WW and even before him - these terrible home OOC schedules. At least we have some other games OOC where we will get tested some, feel better about that but how about something for the folks who buy season ticket packages and have been for years.

Wheels have been in motion on this behind the scenes for over a year. Doesn't mean it will still happen but WW still has backing from some big time boosters and a few BOS members

I think 14-17 wins is what I see this team getting, this team still lacks talent compared to most of the SEC and will be projected anywhere from 12th to 15th in the SEC. Bart Tovrik has LSU ranked 15/16 in SEC
