Lacks talent is a stretch. The whole bench is filled with top 100 players and the starters were scoring double figures and one even 20+ at respectable programs.

The thing about Wade’s schedule was he was great at manipulating the NET. So games like Belmont, Liberty, Furman, St. Louis. At the end of the year these ended up being quad 1or 2 games and made a big impact on the NET

Which is precisely why I think he stayed a second year at McNeese.

He stayed at McNeese bc nobody else is willing to touch him yet. He will never be the coach at LSU again. Give it up

You clowns can’t help yourself in ANY thread about LSU basketball

There’s no question this is his best roster . They seem to have a real good vibe at practice. I’m really looking forward to it.

Man, home OOC schedule still sucks - we play Fla. St. at home only because it's part of the SEC/ACC challenge.

As a long time season ticket holder I really wish there would be some effort to improve in this regard:

I do too, but I think it's just the nature of college basketball now. Similar to football, power conf. teams will play each other. But they'll prefer to do so at neutral sites because (1) both teams get nice paydays for the game (not just the home team) and there's more "credit" for a neutral site win than a home win and less "downside: for a neutral site loss. Unfortunately, LSU is not alone in this. Alabama routinely plays one of, if not the toughest schedules in the country, and if you look at this year's schedule outside of the ACC/SEC game (which is @ UNC) the only power conf. opponent they play at home is Creighton as part of a home and home. Though they will also play Illinois in Birmingham as a "neutral" site game.

LSU played a power conf opponent last year at home in Kansas St. That was probably the first power conf. opponent LSU played (that wasn't part of some "challenge"...Big 12/SEC) in nearly a decade. Unfortunately, this year LSU makes the return trip as part of the home-and-home.

I've LONG said LSU basketball misses a chance to capture an audience in that December lull between the end of football season and a bowl game by not scheduling a big name opponent at home (like they used to routinely do). Most casual fans don't even look at a basketball game until SEC play in January. But I guess that is just the way of the world, for the most part, in basketball today.

Most ranking predictions I've seen have us at the bottom of the league. I don't know enough about the rosters for the rest of the conference, but surely if we finish 16 out of 16, something will have to change.

LSU and McMahon aren't going to get the benefit of the doubt. He did in 2022-2023 and promptly torched it by having an awful season. Last year was improvement, but not enough to make people outside of LSU fans (and many LSU fans) believers just yet.

If it makes you feel any better, Missouri was picked to finish 11th in 2022-23. They went on to finish 4th and reach the NCAA Tournament. South Carolina was picked to finish last at the start of last season. They finished T-2nd and reached the NCAA Tournament.

Teams like Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn, Arkansas will be picked to finish at the top of the league because their coaches have earned the benefit of the doubt with years of great success. Otherwise, basketball might be the toughest sport to predict because of the amount of roster turnover. Most teams now go into every season with anywhere from 40% - 60% of their roster being different from the year before.

I wouldn't allow preseason predictions to discourage (or encourage) you. Hell, Arkansas was picked to finish 3rd last season after two straight Elite 8 appearances. They finished 12th and lost their HC!

He still has a show cause through this season, thats the primary reason nobody really touched him this offseason. He has a lot of recruiting restrictions that ran through this year. They all go away after the 2024-2025 season.

I agree with this. I was not expecting the rest of the world to see LSU in the top half of the league, but dead last was surprising.

It's real info, obviously there are tons of factors still in play but there are members of the BOS and prominent boosters who want him back and never wanted him gone in the first place.

I'm never one to defend McMahon, but pre-season basketball predictions will be as off as they ever have been in the portal era. Literally entire teams are built out in the offseason sometimes from the portal. Nobody really knows how these extremely re-tooled teams from the portal will actually turn out. It's not like the older days where you got to see younger players actualy at the school they are play some before trying to predict what they will look like as a team with them as a starter. Now they have to figure out if the formr 5-star 6'10 PF at Kentucky who didnt play for 2 years behind extreme talent in front of him is better or worse than a mid-major 6'7 PF who wasnt much first year or two of his career at Cal St Northridge but started his 3rd year and averaged 15 points/9 boards all at now a power conference school for each of them.

It's not easy to do.

We will most likely be an nit team again(50%).

Ncaa tournament (25%)

No postseason tournament (25%).

My way too early predictions.
