What's the point of these threads? Williams has looked very good (including this past weekend) and also had some shaky appearances. These were the first 2 earned runs he allowed all season.

This. Dude had literally zero earned runs given up in 11 innings and has shown a lot of promise as a freshman. We have some kind of fans lol.

Benge and Shores are first team All Wasted Stuff.

97 with run and a decent breaker and you can't consistently get outs in the midweek.

Ben made an excellent point about the shite that is taught today as did Greg Maddux in an interview I posted. It is about wins and not 97 ie max effort. If you can’t commend it consistently, then do something different. Spin rate and all this shite that has enamored baseball has even the MLB level averaging misses by a foot.
Purge shite.
Benge missed that spot by 2’ leaving that ball on a tee for that fat arse first baseman. He was pissed about the pitch before. Garbage

Tiger Rant

A "rant" is a loud, uncontrolled, and often angry or agitated speech, characterized by strong emotion and sometimes a lack of reason or logic. It's a way of expressing oneself intensely and sometimes negatively, often about a particular subject or issue.

97 gets you wins, though.

Despite there being more PA in today's game, walk numbers have stayed the same or improved. MLB pitchers do not walk more batters than they did in prior years.

We gotta stop using Greg Maddux as a data point. It's like using Barry Bonds as a data point and saying "why doesn't every guy just take the balls and hit home runs on the strikes?"

how about that 3/2 pitch with bases loaded against alabama that was not even catchable....sailed over the umps head and to the backstop in the air. What kind of 'pitcher' can make that pitch in that situation? Not one I want on my team, I know that.
these big throwing pitchers constantly stay behind in the count, and when they do guide it over the plate, it generally gets blasted by darn near any level of hitter. Same thing tonight against a team full of players that were never even considered good enough to be at LSU.

you actually think that 97 is equal to 97 in the 90’s?
It isn’t

Watch Valdez from Houston and get back to me about commanding pitches. It is the ability to make every pitch come from the same slot with the same motion and locate it. Pitching is about deception. Watch Skenes as an example. Recent video showed how he had exact release point with the exact motion. Break was different.

95 mph 4-seam
94.5 sinker
3000 RPM curveball

It’s deceptive because he has elite stuff

Which is 91-94 equal to the 90’s guns
Valdez isn’t elite because of what you listed. It is elite because he can throw it in any count and locate it exactly where he wants.

94.5 mph sinkers weren't "normal in the 90s"

3000 RPM curveballs aren't normal.

It's elite because he throws 95, with movement, exactly where he wants.

Regardless of how you think the guns are calibrated, you do realize that we can relate these numbers to other LHPs to gauge where he stands, right?

He doesn’t get 40% whiff on his curveball because he can locate it lol
