It was incredible to see though. WTF are we going to have a game breaking RB again?

His performance against a very good Auburn team was brilliant.
I remember playing a pick up basketball game with an LSU football player back then and asking him if any of the freshman in practice looked like they had a good future. He said “Cecil Collins is shredding our defense in practice”.

I miss those formations. I would like to see it again from time to time. I miss a fullback, and great run blocking. I know I'm old.

Was the best RB I've ever seen in person.

in 52 years of life I have seen some amazing RB's in Tiger Stadium, but I have never seen anything like Cecil running through Miss St and Auburn in those two games.

I go all the way back to Chuck Alexander through all the great backs we've had over the years at LSU.

I don't care if he only played in 3.5 games, he's the best back I've ever seen at LSU or anywhere for that matter. And it's not even close IMO.

Just imagine the numbers he puts up if he stays healthy and behaves himself. It's staggering.

to be fair, that line he ran behind was freaking killer...

hopefully this year's amazing offensive line can get there

Had he been able to sustain that level of production for one season, no doubt in my mind he’d have won the Heisman.

If he played a 4 year career without getting caught for the perversion can you imagine the harm he would have done. The poor girls, do we even care about how this affected them, how many never knew and the ones that never went forward to the authorities.

This was leading to serious things

Even better than Leonard Fournette?

I personally think Cecil was better. What could have been.

I’m always confused when this topic is brought up. I’ve watched Cecil highlights and while I think he was good, I don’t see him standing out as an outlier. I was always a Faulk fan.. first game in 1996 vs Mississippi State.

LSU has had many running backs put up big numbers for isolated games.

Cecil Collins vs Auburn
232 yards, 2 TD, Ave. 8.6, Long 48 yards

Fournette vs Auburn
228 yards, 3 TD, Ave. 12, Long 71 yards
And he received limited carries in 2nd half. 169 at half.

If we’re cherry picking games…

I’ll take LF vs Auburn.

Career/Character… Faulk and many others.

Isolated highlight reel… LF

he was great. one of the best i have veer seen.

him, kevin faulk and rondell mealey were a triple threat in 1997. depending who was in or out with injuries, etc.

cecil could read the line and hit holes and had power. there are not many guys with speed and power like herschel walker and bo jackson and leonard fournette. fournette had no moves and could not read lines well at all.

faulk had speed and could juke you out your jockstrap albeit no power.

mealey was a streaky streamline type runner but was real good

yes. much better eyesight and cecil did have a few moves...not faulk type moves but moreso than LF.

I was at those games.
We thought he was going to be the most dominant running back in LSU history.
Instead he became the biggest waste of talent in LSU history.

I was friends with the stadium announcer who called Leesville's games when Collins was there. He gave me a VHS copy of Cecil's high school highlight film. it truly was a man amongst boys ... reminded me of this analogy - NFL Earl Campbell playing against Prairieview A&M. Insane speed, power, and talent as no one single player could tackle him. Seemed like he ran for over 200 yds every game
