I was in band in high school. It's funny how much different the band in college is viewed. Granted TGBFTL is a notch above many college bands.

Yeah, my bro was in LSU drumlins and it's a world of difference from a high school band.

Still seeking that perfect version of Neck although it will probably take some audio mixing expertise to cut or level the background noise.

If you listened to Earthquake, it's a pretty legit pump up song and a good comparison to a tune like Neck.

That Earthquake beat needs to be played in TS. Perhaps it has and I've missed it.

I don't believe they have brought it to the stadium, but it certainly needs to be there.

I've already figured out 6 different ways to chant STTDB on that earthquake one so you may as well throw it out
Posted on 8/19/15 at 1:27 am to easy money
They did once, trying to replace Neck and naturally it lasted all of like 5 seconds before we got STTDB added to it (or at least that's what my GBFTL friends told me, I don't ever actually remember hearing it)

How about create a consequence for the people yelling STTDB, like clean the stadium the next morning? Seriously, the band playlist is getting cut too much. We are going to sound like Miss State before long playing one song all game.

My Dad went to LSU (Chemical Engineer)
My Uncle went to LSU (PHD Chemistry)
My Mom went to LSU Masters (Sociology)
I was on my way to LSU in (Computer Science), But
The High School I went to was Tioga High School in Central Louisiana. The Band director was an Alumni of Northwestern State University, so he took us up there to drum camps and I did go to some down at LSU. I played Marching Snare mostly, but I was a percussionist and could play anything percussion wise. At the time I was younger and college football was not as important as the NFL(Cowboys & Saints).
I got full scholarships to LSU and NSU for Marching Band in the Fall and Concert/Percussion Ensemble during the spring. I did go to All American Marching Band down at LSU, which was awesome. We got to perform at an LSU football game. I had 3 majors I was considering:
1) Music(Percussion emphasis)
2) Computer Science(LSU) or Computer Information Systems(NSU)
3 Pre-Law
I had been playing percussion since I was in the 5th grade so no matter the Major I chose, I wanted an awesome experience for Percussion/Music.
After visiting both schools, to be very honest NSU had by far the best Drumline(Not even close). And after my first Marching season the NSU Band was the best Marching Band in the Land. "The Best Sounding Band in the Land the Northwestern State Demon Marching Band". Our football team sucked so we were the Pride of the school at NSU. People actually came out to see the Band more than the football team. Later I found out that NSU had the best Performing Arts program in the State and then some. Which included Marching Band, Orchestra, Concert Band, Any kind of Art, Theater production, and productions.
I would not trade my time with my boys with the Marching Percussion Section, because it was an unofficial Frat. We would go out and get plastered and kick some of the pansy arse frats and take their Sorority Girls and frick em and send em packin the next day. Sorry thats off the subject.
I have always been an LSU fan ever since my Dad gave me an LSU Banner when I was 5 years old. As for the academics, at the time, LSU definitely had a better Computer Science Program and I would have ended up benefiting more by going to LSU, but I still wouldn't give up my days and nights at NSU. I did however finish with my:
1) Bachelor of Science in Computer Information Systems.
And got my:
2) Masters of Educational Technology.
I converted from a Big NFL fan about the time I turned 28-30 to a Huge College Football fan and of course my favorite team is LSU. I have been an LSU fan though since I was 5 and I am 42 now, but lets just say the last 14 years I have been a very intense College Football fan with LSU the colors I bleed. I went to the LSU-TCU game in AT&T Texas Stadium and I have to say, that game was awesome, but if you get a chance to go to Texas Stadium for anything, Concert, NFL, College, whatever, it is one of the coolest stadiums right now. However, with LSU's addition to it's stadium, or even before that, I always loved going to Death Valley for a game.
I will say this, LSU's fight song is one of the best of all colleges. LSU's Uniforms are the best in College football. I do remember this I was at the game at Turpin Stadium(NSU), when the first ever televised mascot fight broke out for real and was shown over and over on ESPN. NSU's 15 minutes and NLU's. NSU Demon mascot vs. NLU Indian mascot. We won hands down.
I know this is way more information than anyone wanted, but this is my story about Percussion and it is definitely effected my life profoundly.
If you want to see some of the best Drumlines in the Country check out DCI(Drum Corps International). Also, some of the best Percussionists can be found at PASIC(Percussive Arts Society International Convention). I went to PASIC in New Orleans '92, Nashville '94 and Atlanta '96. I saw many great High School and College marching percussion sections perform to win. And of course the individuals competition for High School and College. They also had Ensembles, Xylophones, Marimbas, all types of percussive keyboard instruments, and World percussion was awesome as you got to play with cultures from all over the world. One of the best parts was exhibit hall where you could find the latest percussion instruments from marching snare drums, to exotic tribal and ethnic percussion. There were even Clinicians from Drum set players like Chad Smith(Red Hot Chilli Peppers), Dave Weckel(Jazz), Vinnie Calhouti(String & many other groups), and the list goes on. Saw and met many popular and famous Percussionists.

Drum warmup AKA "Sun Dookie"
I've seen them do this several times, and it is awesome. I actually like this more than the drum cadence.

DJ...you play tenors for NSU? I went to Southwood High School when you were at NSU and ya'll were the shite to us and every other high school line at that time.We learned every thing ya'll played...wasn't quite as good but damn close! We also learned LSU's famous Marty Hurley cadence, can't remember the name of it but I think it's "Blue Knight" or something like that. They've added more to it in recent years. I dig it, but it always sounds sloppy.
Verdis Walker, TJ, the big dude that played tenors, little blonde hair guy that played for Phantom Regiment and I think he wrote NSU cadence around that time(had 12/8 time in it if I remember correctly). Ya'll were gods to us. Haha! Anyways, as much as I LOVE LSU and the band tradition, I have to agree. The NSU drumline was and still is the best line in Louisiana and one of the best college lines in the country. Florida States is bad arse too. Actually, NLU had my favorite cadence in the early '90's. Groovin as shite! Poor Tech...lol.

"Spider" was always one of my favorite Jams. I knew Verdis from the camps we did at NSU. I don't know if you ever heard my name, probably not, Kevin Reiszner? I came in right after he left. Fall 1991 is when I started. TJ was still there, and Frankie Chapple(Phantom Regiment) was the slim blonde haired guy who took over as drum captain after Verdis left. I also knew Frank Saunders real well. I worked with Marty Hurley in different camps. NLU was good to. It was always a battle, and it was the only football game either school cared about. I remember ULL bringing the heat also.
1st season - Cymbals
2nd season - Bass Drum
3rd season - Snare Drum
4th season - Snare Drum
5th season - Snare Drum
6th season - Snare Drum
I almost went after the complete list. But, I never officially played Tenors or in the Pit. I just couldn't leave Marching Snare. I was not good at Sight reading at all, but because of that I would come in the next day with whatever was new(Cadences, Marching Band Music, etc...), and I had it memorized, locked in the Vault. They would allow the guys to keep their music tapped to the drum for a few days. But when they all were supposed to have it memorized, and everyone was arguing about what a specific line or bar should be, they always said "Kevin what is it, so sucked at sight reading but they always called me out to let everyone know what notes were in a specific bar, line, or section... hehe).

I was in the LSU Drumline and was a percussion performance major from 93-97. We knew we weren't the best line in the state at the time. We were solid, but didn't spend the time that more competitive college lines did. We couldn't, frankly. A large percentage of us were music majors, and the focus at LSU was predominantly on concert music. If you were in the LSU Wind Ensemble, Orchestra, Jazz Band, Percussion Ensemble, and either going through recite prep as a performance major, or conducting and wind and brass techniques as ed, there just wasn't much time beyond one week of camp, regular band practice, one section rehearsal a week, and game day.
That said, I would put the group I was in school with up against anyone in an all-around showdown. Of the two guys ahead of me when I was there, one is in the top Army Band and has been in the color guard at a Super Bowl pressmen and this year's NCAA Men's Bball Championship game, and the other is a published teacher in Texas, who focuses on marching percussion. He actually wrote one of those cadences (Blue Building).
I wasn't as good as those two, but I did manage to get into grad school at FSU for performance and get that degree, before moving onto other things. I'm honestly not sure how the percussion program at LSU stacks up right now, but when Dr Raush was there, we were a pretty tight ship. Some very accomplished concert percussionists and several good educators came out of there from the mid Eighties to the late Nineties.
Just for the record.
