How crazy is it that Brian Kelly fired Tommy Moffitt

And then Tommy Moffitt trained Texas A&M came into tiger Stadium and ended Brian Kelly’s career?
Andy Staples made this point on his podcast today and I never really realized it before. That is pretty mind blowing when you think about it.

This board likes to say Moffitt was stale, which is the LSU fans way of coping. But the dude is and always has been one of the best in the business.

Yeah but everyone blamed Moffitt for LSU being soft in 2020-2021.
ETA: it is possible that he did “grow stale” or the “game passed him by” after 2019 (I don’t think so) and getting fired by Brian Kelly & the opportunity for revenge at A&M lit a fire under him.
Either way glad it worked out, but I still hate the idea of Moffitt saying “gig em”

Both of these things can be true:
Moffittt's stuff got stale here, even before 2019.
LSU firing him seemed to give him new life at Texas A&M
Yeah, it sucks that he's given Texas A&M an identity. But LSU had become soft with him here, and there's no guarantee things would have turned around had he stayed. Sometimes, people need a change of scenery to be rejuvenated after a down period.

I haven’t read this thread, but the greatest thing to happen to LSU since 2019 was the Texas A&M loss.
And I wasn’t at the game. I fell asleep before halftime kinda drunk on my couch and saw the final score afterward.
The best thing that could’ve ever happened to us, but we never knew it at the time.

Did he just stop coaching the last 2 games of the season or did they just run into teams with better S&C coaches.

Letting Raymond walk was worse, there were signs early on Kelly was not going to work here.

I thought it was good for both sides to part ways TBH. Things had gotten stale with Moffitt and those teams in his latter years of 2020 and 2021 lacked a lot of toughness and looked outmatched physically in a lot of games. I was fine with letting him walk but thought it was classless how BK let him go and I believe it only lit a bigger fire under him.
People also forget how awful Raymond was in 2020 and 2021, and that trend continued while he was at Florida. Once Napier showed him the door, he was sitting on his couch before LSU come calling again so let’s not act like he was some hot commodity with people begging for his services.
His contract was even a “prove it” based deal.
I was fine with letting them go at the time, and I would put a multitude of other bad decisions from BK well ahead of these two.
