Ivory Hilliard had the game of his life for starters. Two interceptions that he lateraled on the return for huge gains.

We played over our heads and forced a couple key turnovers.

What’s funny is that Hallman gave Bama fits at Southern Miss and the knocked them off when LSU was bad.

Kevin Mawae said the streak ends today.

If I remember, I believe Bama QB went down early and they had to play their best playmaker at QB which made it easier for us to control him and shut them down

Stopped the run. Forced Barker to pass. Anthony Marshall and Ivory Hilliard read his eyes and picked him off. Capitalized on those turnovers.
Alabama had a great defense but crap offense. If other teams had played them the way LSU did that day (sell out to stop the run in early downs ) they would have lost 2 games a year. Great time for SEC football. Fun and Gun of Spurrier versus old school run the ball and hard nose defense. When you could kill a QB or receiver across the middle, and needed a full back on offense. Oklahoma drill mattered and the I formation was king.

quote:Barker didn’t play a single snap. Brian Burgdhorf (sp?) filled in and David Palmer even had to take some snaps because the other guy was so bad.
Forced Barker to pass.

A number of things just worked in LSU's favor that day and LSU took advantage of it. Jay Barker was out hurt and Freddie Kinchens started as usual he sucked and David Palmer WR/KR went to QB out of deportation. LSU D played lights out and offense, running game and Chad Loup took advantage of turnovers. I also think the pressure of Bama having won a ton of games in a row was catching up with them. It really wasn't a fluke, LSU beat them that day. Oh and Bama wasn't cruising to a perfect season. They were ripe to be had. Bad QB play finally caught up with them.

I remember fishing that day and listening to the game on the radio.
