Instead of trying to beef up Perkins to play linebacker, he should play box safety

He’s around 220 now. He should have lost weight and been around 205. That extra weight hasnt helped him rush or absorb linemen in the run game. He’s playing zone and just floating around anyways. Let him play at a lower weight keeps him agile enough to play nickle and 205 allows him to still blitz or rush edge when needed.

He doesn’t look 220 and those numbers are often inflated.
He’s basically a box safety now with how they are using him.

Hopefully our new DC knows how to use him

Hopefully, he doesn’t hit the portal

As much as all are mad abut Saturday...My opinion LSU will finish 10-3, that being said next season it's a 12 team playoff..The Offense will be good...The D will get the needed changes and I am sure Perkins will be talked to...Why transfer for 1 year, he is going PRO after next season...

I think he could be used like a Jacoby Stevens player (Stevens was around 220-230 though). Box safety but also guarding down the field when needed. Just need a coach who can actually use him the right way. IMO hes having to do too much thinking in this scheme instead of just going and doing.

wasn't Mingo smaller than that?

he's got a history of not learning the schemes/plays, relying on natural ability I guess, why not put him in a position to tee off on known passing plays?

Harold Perkins should never play a position in which the desired outcome of a play is for him to be in coverage against a slot receiver.
I do not disagree about the weight issue as he is definitely a tweener. Either gain more or lose some. I personally believe he should be an edge rusher, weight be damned. From a purely uneducated fan perspective, he looks to be playing a position in which he has to process too many things mentally. I am not saying the kid cant hack it, but it has neutered his biggest strength which is lighting quickness in pursuit of the football.

That is the problem with House’s defense in a nutshell. It’s too fricking over complicated for college football. What does thinking while playing do- it slows you down. You can see it out there. Most of the players this year don’t know what to do or where to be. This also makes it a lot harder to get talented freshmen on the field.
Aranda and Saban have both run pretty complicated defenses as well. Barry Odom, too. But all of them are flexible enough to adapt and their players learn the systems relatively quickly and can execute them. House just can’t seem to do any of that, on top of his other deficiencies.

That’s what he has been playing

Jacoby Stevens is an interesting comparison because it took them three years to slot him into the right position for his tweener body type.
No one remembers this but as a freshman he even got some snaps at wingback as they tried to find him a spot.

We have already seen this not work. He’s just not big enough to take on blockers. If he’s used as nothing but a speed rusher, then you can only play him a handful of downs per game, and teams like OM and UT will just use tempo to keep him off the field for entire drives.

All good DCs install a base defense and then expand and increase complexity. IIRC Aranda had to simplify the defense and we started locking shite down.

Jacoby had a hell of a career here haha. Staff tried him at DB, WR, safety and more lol. I think Perkins is kind of like that. Was a OLB/Edge rusher last season, spy, MLB, OLB, now nickle and OLB. Maybe he’ll be opposite of Stevens and he could be end up being a hell of a WR for us ahahaha

Perkins whiffed on a few big tackles that allowed for 15+ extra yards on each. This won’t be popular, but I think he’s a great athlete, but not a very good football player. Nowhere the football player that Jacoby was, though Jacoby was not the athlete that Perkins is. I’m just not sure anybody really knows the best way to use him at this point.

perkins has one move, speed rush to the outside
if he goes inside he gets swallowed up
if he bullrushes the OT he gets swallowed up
if speed rushes to the outside the OT rides him behind the QB and there is no containment
He works best as a blitzer and that is only sometimes

Perkins is fine at 220lb. Queen & Kwon Alexander were about his size in their early years at LSU.
A Linebacker is only as good as the scheme & the defensive line that he plays behind. Our interior guys just aren't disruptive enough to free up our linebackers to clean up running plays.
Everybody in America knows Perk has the talent.

He looked more like a box turtle on the field Saturday night. Slower than tupelo honey.

BK has completely wasted Harold Perkins along with a Heisman trophy caliber QB & the # 1 offense in the country.
