It's pretty cool to win with no earned runs

Can't recall this happening recently. And with a dinger to boot.

Guess official scorer determined the first two errors would have ended the game, so all subsequent runs are unearned

The last 3 guys got hits. How is a homerun not earned?

I understand the base runners getting on from errors not being earned runs, but why is Jones’ HR not 1 earned run?

I know. It just seems dumb that a pitcher that gives up 3 hits, including a 452 ft homerun, has no earned runs for the outing.

That needs to get fixed. Bear's Homer was a legit hit. Every single error potentially ends the chance of winning and no one ever stops adding hits or errors until the last out.

I’ve been following baseball for a long time, and Im 99.999% sure this is not correct.

The beck and curriel rbis should be unearned, yes.
But Beck, curriel, and Jones should all be earned runs. I even did the books back in high school. You can’t deem future runs as unearned just because Tennessee should have gotten out of an inning.

Edit: I very well might be wrong, but I feel decently confident in what I said above

ummm, they don't make the 2 errors he never comes close to batting. I cannot believe this got 9 upvotes. Do people honestly not understand scoring?

Jesus Christ...and you are even bragging about your knowledge. wow

I cannot believe how many people don't understand this. No wonder the threads are shite most of the time.

The first two runs got on base via E5.

Reaves walked. Beck singled. Curiel singled. Jones homered.

I would've thought the first two runs were unearned but the last four earned?

NO

None of that would have happened without the 2 errors.

Agree, but it would be a mess trying to sort out earned vs unearned another way.

I can’t believe so many people in here are clueless about earned runs.

Wait, yes I can.

Any run scored after there should have been 3 outs in an inning is unearned. Plain and simple.

Correct. It was a hit.

The potential "winning" part only happened because it was the 9th inning. You can't go back inning by inning and point to specific errors that prevented the final outcome. It doesn't work that way. That's like blaming someone who cut you off in traffic early in the morning for making you late for an appointment later in the evening.

Not sure what that means, but all hits and errors are recorded up until the last out,

Tenner should have had only 1 ER. 2 scored via the passed ball otherwise they don’t.
But they gave them as earned which is BS. Both of the runs off of Anderson were advanced and wouldn’t have scored on the hits.

They were scored as WP (not PB) which puts cause on pitcher which makes them ER.

I even said I may be wrong.

You’re an example of why the threads go to shite.

dude, anybody that follows baseball, or every played it, SHOULD know that anything that happens after there should have been 3 outs if not for errors, are all unearned. The fact that you bragged about being a score keeper makes it even worse.
