Lady Tigers Softball - mid-term report card

For those that watch the Lady Tigers play - please read on. For those that don't - well you are missing out on what could be an historic season.
The pieces are in place but there is still progress to be made b/f final exams. I hear the fire Beth stew brewing thoughts yet again - like clockwork when SEC regular season play is about half-way done. To be honest I'm as frustrated as anyone when it comes to our Lady Tigers "agony of defeat" in post season play. They've lost about every way imaginable. However, I'm enjoying this season mainly b/c they are legit. They play great defense, have excellent contact hitters throughout the lineup, and above average/not yet great pitching. Each game something strange seems to happen: good and bad. Throw in 3-4 potential All-Americans in 2025 and if they get hot late this season we are all in for a treat. Mid-season report card: B+
Fire away.....

i wonder if teams are dialing in on heavener a bit more with her having more tape out there for schools to see.

I don't see how you can rate them any higher than a C. The hitting has improved, but the pitching has struggled more as the season goes on. We could very well get swept in our next two series. It's pretty much same song, different verse. Start out really strong then fizzle out down the stretch. That's been the MO for Beth's teams over the past several years.

they play Texas florida and Arkansas to close it out
they could lose all nine games if they don't kick it in gear

Hitting hasn’t been a problem , Berzon is your ace and she’d be the # 2 on a lot of teams . Heavener has serious control issues .

Re: Heavener
If you pull the leash a bit sooner when she is having one of those walking, hitting batters, wild pitches kind of inning to start the game, they may take a game or two, or three, late in the game with the bats an a reliever who changes the scenario for the other team.

Same as the last 6-8 season run it up in non conference the finish top 6-8 in SEC then get bounced in the regional or supers. This team is just like the rest. Beth is the problem, she squandered talent as well as Les Miles

I am ready to give Tatum Clopton a start this weekend in either Berzon's or Heavener's spot in the rotation i.e. either Clopton on Thursday or Friday, Berzon on Thursday or Friday and Vallejo on Saturday

Can not be giving up walks, hits batsman, and committing errors! Have to pitch better and have timely hitting with runners in scoring position!

Weird fun fact. The softball team is not the “lady tigers.” They are just tigers. The only teams that are lady tigers are the sports with a male counterpart.
Not a high level of importance, but that’s my contribution to this thread.

There are less than 5 posters on this board worth having a discussion about softball with. From the rest you will get the same tired BS on repeat. Those people can't name more than 3 players on the team most likely.

Their lineup has been fun to watch all year. They are really solid, and will always be able to keep LSU in games. I think pitching will be the ultimate downfall. It's too inconsistent. With great pitching, the WS is realistic. With sub par games a super may be the ceiling.

I hope I'm one of those who contribute to the softball discussion! With my 35+ years of coaching high school & travel softball, plus being a long time season ticket holder & Diamond Backer, I hoped that I could add insight into what coaches think & maybe explain the processes involved in their decisions in as positive of a way as possible.
Some people say that I'm too favorable towards our coaches, but I disagree.... do I agree with every decision that our coaches make? Not at all, but I'm not at practices daily & I have no idea of what goes on inside the team. If I was the coach, I'm definitely sure that folks here would disagree with all of my decisions too.... that's part of life being a coach. So because of that, I don't really criticize the coaches here.
There used to be some great discussions about softball on the rant, but it's become like everything else in our country now... if you're not on the side of some here, you are shamed, called names, or talked to like a child. I used to love to talk softball here, but not so much.
Looking forward to making the 2 hour drive up to Austin tomorrow to watch the games this weekend. I'm hoping we do well as I'm not a fan of Austin traffic.

I have enjoyed watching the team this season. They have had their ups and downs and are currently on the down, but the talent is there to get the job done. Heavener is great when she is one, but when she isn't, we put ourselves in a big hole and usually wait too long to make a change. All in all, this is a very talented team that CAN and SHOULD be set up for success in the postseason. It's a matter of will the players be "up" for the big games and will the coaches put them in the best position to leverage their talent to win the game.

Great take...

Wind is blowing to LF, but we're going to have to make contact to take advantage of it...
Game is a sellout, but not near full. Hard to get to a 430 game in Austin traffic if working today.
America Salutes game and first time I'm ever seen a military flyover for a softball game... impressive.

SEC softball replay officials in Birmingham are as bad or worse than football...
