Anyone ever sent their child? Is it worth the 500 dollars?

i went to skip bertman baseball camp for 5-6 years, and i always had a blast. i don't know what it's like now, imagine much the same, and i'd say it's well worth the money.

Ive been three times to the baseball camp it was alot of fun. Except all three years i was there when Smoke was there. Id haft to say i learned alot of new stuff that has helped with my playing days now, so i would say yes it is worth it. Also is ton of fun for kids.

I went for 6 years in a row to Skip's camp. Best part of the summer every year. LOVED IT. Definitely worth it IMO.
ETA: and it definitely made me a better baseball player.

For the fun and awe of being at LSU...on there field.....yes, it's worth it.
Some good instruction......but not enough of one-on-one.
For $500.....I'd go do a specific workout program at a Traction or something else.
Just my O

The players come out and help and you get all sorts of autographs. I have the entire 96 team and 97 team on two baseballs. Pretty sweet. I still remember Skip and Turtle Thomas teaching me how to slide properly. Skip also taught me how to throw a slider but said "don't throw it a lot or tell your parents I taught you this because it's bad for your arm this young"

i'm calling bull shite here....skip only shows up for picture day

oh and the time that 14 yr. old was clocked at 87 mph....skip came and told him he wanted to talk to his parents when they picked him up at the end of the camp

Unfortunately, I would say no.... I live in Houston and two years ago I sent my son to the camp(just do something different; he usually does Houston or Rice). He was ten at the time. He had hated it.....He said they played in Alex once, the other times, they WALKED from Alex Box to U-High to train/practice....he said most of the instructors were ball players from Southern(not an issue with Southern, but if I wanted to go to a Southern camp, I would've gave them my money).
I was really dissapointed....being a graduate and his mom also, we always talk up anything LSU but this is strictly a money grab for people who get caught up in the hype that is LSU and my son saw right through it....Here's the kicker....I spoke with him the last day and asked how was it and he told me he won defensive MVP...in my excitement, I asked him if he got a trophy..."no"....a placque..."no"....oh a certificate....."no, I just got a photo of this years team, with the instructors signatures on it". I took the photo and checked the names with the SU roster and my son was right....

when you get older, at least back when i was there, we actually had our swings videotaped and analyzed in the film room by beetle bailey. i thought it was pretty awesome they did that

you played at the box once you were 15 or 16. they can't reasonably fit every age group into alex box, and there were also lsu players as coaches as well, but again, you can't reasonably have all lsu players coaching every single team. there were usually 4-6 teams per age group, and there were like 8 age groups

Sent my 9 year old nephew to the last 2 Christmas camps and to summer camp last year. He's learned a lot and it shows in his play.

uhhhh no sir. 2 maybe 3 of the years our last day of the camp practicing was on the field in the Box and Skip was there to oversee it. We separated into positions and he helped all the pitchers. I still remember him saying "throw within your self. Within your own ability". Best advice I was ever given as a pitcher or athlete.

i've always thought that overused sports cliche was kind of dumb, to each his own i guess. i understand the point being tried to get across but i just think that the wording makes no sense. what are you gonna do pitch outside your abilities in an out of body experience? i know i'm just nitpicking, but it's just kind of a pet peave of mine

His son is 12....is it worth it? My answer is no. My son told me the U of H camp was 10x better. Broke my heart but hey it is what it is...

well i guess i didn't pay for it, my parents did, so my perspective is a little different. i was just in awe that i had lsu players hanging out with us and getting to be in alex box every day. i just think the childhood experience is worth it, just my two cents. i'll say his son will never forget it.

I was just trying to throw way too hard to impress people. Just like in every sport, you need to have controlled aggression. That's what I always took it as. Trying to do too much was always my problem.

My wife and I are both from Louisiana but live in So Cal now. Our oldest son attended Smoke's camp when he was 11 and he absolutely loved it. He got to work out with and interact with many of the players and I have lots of pictures of him with some of his favorites from the last day. He still has the team picture from that year on his wall, signed by many of the players.
Is it worth the money? Hard to say. The way I see it part of what you're paying for is the experience and for your kid to get to be at the Box and work out with LSU players and coaches.
