What year did you go to McMain?

LSU is loaded at the guard position. PT is lessened. Either way, we will be ok

Well, the tweet does have 156 views now

Ward is one of the few wing players with any length. This would be a substantial loss.

If this is true, that means our transfers and freshman are all better than him.

Freshman Vyctorious Miller has similar length to Ward and is also a good outside shooter. We’ll be fine on the perimeter (backcourt).

Yep you could tell in practices he was down the line. I hate it though. He brought something to the table . Hope they can resolve it.

Can’t rely on freshmen, sorry. Losing a harvested 3 yr player is rough
Posted on 11/6/24 at 7:55 am to Lester Earl
Not saying it’s not a loss. But, it’s not catastrophic because Miller, Carter, Williams and Bailey (the latter 3 of which are veterans) can pull up the slack. I certainly rather have him than not, but we’ll be OK in his absence.

Cut his scholarship and boot him from the team. Let him figure out classes without tutors.

Yeah I dont know why people think this is a nothingberger. He is our leading returning scorer who shot 42% from 3 and scored double digits in 7 of our last 9 regular season SEC games last season. He was definitely coming into his own. This is not a good look if he's headed out.
To me this is a team that will struggle some offensively, losing your best 3 point shooter with all the experience he has is not a good way to get the season started.

They are just hoping it doesnt cost us much. But it obviously will. Hopefully its something they can resolve when emotions calm

Disagree, if he is on his way out it is because he fell down the depth chart, that means there are better players than him playing.

It would absolutely be a big loss. There is already concern about where the offense will consistently come from on a nightly basis. Losing your most efficient scorer from last season isn't going to help that.
That said, some of the social media the program has put out over the last few days shows Ward at practice. So if this rumor is accurate, it seems that decision may have been made in the last day or so.

Not just a rumor, this is the truth. Sources close to the program confirmed that unless something happens, Ward will redshirt and transfer from LSU.

Would be a significant blow. Not just to the hopes for this season, but the narrative that McMahon is taking a "recruit, retain, and develop" approach. If that is the approach you want to take you can't lose your top signee after just two seasons.

Maybe they’re already better. I can guarantee they’re all already better defensively

I highly doubt he "Fell down the depth chart". He was the best returning offensive player who shot 42% from 3 last year and scored double digits in 7 of the last 9 regular season SEC games to end the year. He was a pretty good player.
Dude this team is not loaded with talent, who on earth would be stealing minutes from him? A true freshman? Dji Bailey? Come on. There's obviously something else going on here.
It's possible it's just a total lack of motivation on his end. He's a guy that constantly needs to be coddled/encouraged a bit from his history here it seems. They kind of begged him to stay around for last year in case you dont remember that. They obviously think he's a pretty good player but a premium board mod has noted in the last month or so in practices and such he seemed kind of checked out.

I mean all 3 freshman are closer to top 50 players so I would say they have some talent.

Ward was ranked higher than all of them in his respective class. The rankings are nice. But they don't mean much if there is no production tied to it.
I don't disagree with you that Ward wasn't a particularly good defender. Bailey comes over with a pedigree of being a good defender. Teams CAN win with great defense. In fact, great defense is often more important than good offense. I've said from day one this team has to be much better defensively because McMahon's last two have been awful. The answer we don't know is will increased defense offset the loss of a reliable 3 point shooter? Particularly if this team wants to increase it's 3 point attempts...which seems possible given LSU doesn't look like it has a true inside post scorer this year like they had with KJ and Baker.
