I think it's silly we stopped bringing Mike to games as much as the next guy but most of those animals pictured are not apex predators. It's a tad different to deal with I'd imagine.

I saw that. Bears are docile and non-territorial by nature. Still not the same thing I'd imagine.

eta: I'm not against bringing Mike to games. I think it's silly we stopped it in the first place. I'm just trying to justify their reasoning I guess.

Well, since the Detroit football team doesnt have a "campus", I wonder where fans are going to get to see their new Lions?

College football is all about tradition, thats what separates it from the NFL.

Baylor doesn’t bring their bear on the field anymore.

The NFL said no to having a live lion mascot on the sidelines.

Absolutely no reason to overstimulate an apex predator for the sake of your iPhone.

Does absolutely nothing for the tiger or anyone

He's a mascot. If he can't be a mascot then we shouldn't have him. I've yet to hear an argument from anyone without an agenda for why Mike can't be in the stadium 7 times per year

I agree, its one of, if not the best mascot traditions in college sports. you just have to spin it as bringing awareness to endangered tigers and tiger welfare etc. Then people can stop pretending to be outraged by putting a tiger in a sound proof cage for 30 minutes.

Wait until some of you guys hear about rodeos.

The vet school claimed we'd never be able to find a group to give us a Tiger again if we didn't agree to those "sanctuary" guidelines when we got VII. One of the stipulations was not forcing him into the trailer. I remember Dr. Baker saying they tried everything to get VII into the trailer and he simply would not do it.

Once upon a time they would prod him to get him into the trailer and to roar in the stadium.

This just goes to show that the younger generations are fricking soft as hell and have no spine at all.

For fricks sake, it’s an animal. It doesn’t have the ability to comprehend what’s going on and it doesn’t know any sense of morality at all. The only thing that tigers know is killing and that’s it.

The people who are bitching about this should look at countries like Spain and Mexico that have bullfighting contests where the bull gets gored. That deserves way more attention than this does.

Tell me you don't know what an apex predator is without telling me.
