LSU's old downtown BR campus: Maps, photos?

I posted this earlier in the OT, and it was suggested I post here:
I know it was the area of the new state capital, and I know the old pentagon barracks, still standing, was part of it.
Can you imagine the city now, without the sprawl, if a significant amount of stuff would have stayed in a central location?
Why was it moved?
Anyone have an old campus map/ photos etc? I goggled it and not much turned up.

If it goes off the first page... bump it so the guys that work 9-5 can see.

I have this city map of Baton Rouge off of a 1931 Gulf Oil map of Louisiana. Although the campus had been moved in the 20s, this map still shows it at the old location.

Interesting how many streets changed names and are fragmented/ rerouted now. BR planning at its finest.

The old campus was to small and the buildings and class rooms were great when LSU had 500-600 students. But by 1920 the student body was growing way beyond what the campus could support.
The projections for the 1930's showed LSu would out grow the old campus.
So the move to the south campus was a long goal for the LSU governing body.
My Grandmother was at the old campus in the early 20's, her older brothers were LSU grads in the 1910's. They all said the old campus was small and the old football field wasn't that good compaired to other school in the south at the time.
Tiger stadium and the new campus changed how the south looked at LSU.

It's interesting to think about how LSU and Baton Rouge would have developed differently had LSU remained downtown.
And of course all of the "what if's" relating to LSU staying in Pineville rather than moving to BR.

Not sure about the accuracy of that map - does not have a number of the old Spanish Town Streets nor the Diagonal Streets of Beauregard Town. Where the McDonalds stands now on Government, there at one time was a park where all of the Diagonal Streets converged.

Exxon too for that matter, If Exxon didn't buy an old plantation. That was the best land to develop, higher ground, nicer terrain etc just north of downtown. All the development would have gone that way. The further north of downtown you went the more desirable the terrain was pre-industry.
