We have obviously done really well with pulling impact players through the portal and have filled gaps of need. I'm confident LSU has adapted to the new age of college football with the portal and NIL.

My big concern is that under BK we have been abysmal to start seasons. I'm concerned that he will struggle to get teams with massive roster turnover each season ready to go for game 1.

Examples from this season. We didn't settle on defensive personnel until mid way through the season. Durham didn't touch the ball in game 1 this year.

weaker opening schedule is only answer for that if you keep taking quite a few transfers.

I think it’s inevitable that we will see having a pre-season scrimmage with an FCS or G6 school legalized. It’s money for them and something better than practice for the P4 school. Same for Spring Games. It’s necessary for coaches to have a better idea of where their players are.

Of course, the mass roster turnover will be true of 99% of the FBS schools. Ironically for LSU, the Tigers will play probably the only team (other than a service academy) in FBS in the opening game that doesn't believe in the transfer portal...Clemson.

We had new coordinators on both sides of the ball this year. That will not be the case (baring some big surprise) this coming year. I do not worry about a slow start against Clemson.

I think this will eventually lead to the teams in the power conference schooks breaking away and there will have to be some sort of system to create equitable scheduling to whatever extent possible. Something akin to an NFL model.

So I think we'll move to that and likely sooner than most think and as another mentioned every school may then get an opening game against for a payout to one smaller level school to keep at least some money coming to them and then schedule the rest of the games against power conference teams - thankfully so we won't have to sit through 3 additional games no one is interested in going to.

This is not a BK unique problem. BK said going into last year that with the NIL and unlimited transfers you would see around 50% roster turnover year to year until something changes.

Lose your sr class and portal guys and replace with Freshman class and portal guys equals about 35-40 players changing.

Most teams are dealing with something similar. Some of the playoff teams are not hit with the full portal effect yet and will be late to the table.

Nebulous, constant negativity will not likely be successful as a solution to what you incorrectly perceive as the problem.

Who, specifically, are you referring to? Other than Weeks starting at ILB, the defensive personnel that started vs. USC was mostly the same all year.

He was a true freshman who had literally never played a college game before. LSU went with their experienced backs...and they started to have some success in the second half (Emery). LSU didn't lose the USC game because of poor personnel choices. They lost it because (1) they struggled in the redzone (two possessions the first and last full possession ended in the RZ without TDs) and their secondary, particularly the safeties, weren't good in the second half when LSU needed a play.

It was due to injury but Sage Ryan was getting abused on the outside with Zy out. Jordan Allen started and played a ton of snaps. McKinley didn't play, Keys didn't play, Reliford didn't play.

Major Burns and Sage Ryan played 63 and 54 snaps, respectively. They ended the year hovering around 20 and 30.

OP. Your title states MASS ROSTER TURNOVER

Then you go on to state nothing about a Mass Turnover.

Also, they have 7 SEC schools now that have more players transferring than LSU.

Part of the way it is now.
