He’s seasoned— been thru adversity.
Why is he not starting. He can hit & throw out base runners. Please educate me. I must be delusional!

Because the offense is desperate for production and he’s the weak link in the box out of the three options.

A lot of y'all may not like this answer (or mine, obviously ) and you may disagree with Jay's reasoning, but that's his reasoning, and this is the answer to the OP's question.

Neal has more power but he’s not making contact.

we need guys who can do anything in this lineup.

can’t have a CF, 2B and C hitting .095 combined

We've hit a crap ton of 1 run hrs. We need to get people on base.
