He was always capable of throwing strikes for 7 innings. There will be some box scores that say 5 IP 10 H 6 ER 1 BB 2 K though.

It's a matter of if his smashed balls find grass or not.

He never had a consistent out pitch and too many of his pitches became meatballs

Solving that will make him a quality pitcher

He'll be tiger bait in a month, for the true Tigers.

So Dutton is Auburn's Friday night guy?

I watched a little of their game. Auburns defense made some very good plays early to keep them out of a big inning. Vandys hardest hit balls went right at someone.

Dutton looked good overall though. Was throwing his curveball for strikes early and was constantly ahead in the count.

Butch Thompson is also a damn good pitching coach.

Yeah I’m glad to see him do well. The programs are on such different levels though, so let’s keep this in perspective. And yes I know we had a down year, but still we’ve got way more talent than Auburn. I mean come on. If Dutton is their ace, which all signs thus far say so, they are in big trouble.

And this is not expected to be one of Vanderbilt’s better hitting clubs.

If yall remember, he was counted on quite a bit as a freshman. I'd like to have him for games to eat innings without walking the bases loaded

Dutton always had the potential to develop into a poor man’s Lane Mestepey.

Jay (reluctantly) made him the Sunday starter for a brief period there during Jay's first year. That speaks to 2 things
1. Mainieri left the cupboard bare as frick on the mound.
2. Jay saw some potential in Dutton but he also wasn't satisfied and went out and found better

IDK if Jay processed him or he self-deported. He probably made the wise choice because he's gonna get a lot more innings in Auburn than in Baton Rouge.

Jay strikes me as the type of guy who only "processes" a small handful of guys. For the rest, he says you weren't good enough to win a championship and I'm going find someone better. Either compete or walk.

But I have no idea

10 ground ball outs is certainly different from him. Wonder if he has a new pitch or something.

Dutton is a good pitcher, just not as good as the guys lsu currently has. He made a good decision to leave. No point in over analyzing anything here
