Saturday’s Game and Griffin Herring

Across these threads I’ve seen a lot of Griffin being lumped in with Jump and Holman as far as guys who won’t, or can’t pitch again in this tourney.
In what world can a relief pitcher, who threw 33 pitches, not pitch again 4 days later? Little leaguers throw with that type of rest.
Jay will no doubt throw both he and Guidry on Saturday, maybe even again after that if needed to win, depending on pitch count Saturday. Also, you know that those grinders will want the ball.

I just don't see it happening. Griffin has been the best bullpen arm for LSU and one of the best in the SEC. He pitched last Thursday + Friday, and then threw again on Tuesday. There is a whole throwing process besides just the pitches thrown in the game. The bullpens before he goes in, the throw work he does on off days.
I do not think we will throw our best bullpen arm 4 separate times in a 9 day span whenever next weekend is the NCAA tournament that everyone cares about.
That being said, It could happen, just my opinion.

You will see Herring for an inning or two on Saturday

Yea Herring is going in. The whole team didn’t play this well to just sandbag at the finish line.

If it's close, absolutely there is a chance. If we are way up or way down, Jay saves him. Same for Sunday. And same for Guidry.
We know Jay loves to use these games as "tryout" opportunities for the regional. I fully expect to see Dutton, Johnson, Moffett, Anderson, Coleman all get a chance Saturday. Remember, last year Jay was running Moffet and Coleman out there in an elimination game with the game on the line, we lost because of it, and people lost their mind. He was seeing who he could depend on for the regional. He wasn't overly concerned with the outcome. It wouldn't surprise me to see that kind of coaching on Saturday, and then throw Herring/Guidry/Ackenhausen/Little on Sunday to go ahead and try to win the thing if we make it.

I mentioned the same in another thread. I think it would be a risk to throw him on Sunday but Sat means 6 days until his next possible outing. He’s used to throwing a couple times a week and 33 isn’t much wear on the arm. Wouldn’t be surprised if he goes 2nd but also could see him starting with a pitch limit.

Are people really saying Herring won't pitch again in the tournament? I've only participated in a couple of threads, so I haven't seen that.
Yeah, I don't think there is any doubt Herring and Guidry are a full go on Saturday. Nobody is going to be overtaxed going for an SEC tournament title, as they will surely play it safe. But relievers pitch multiple times in a week. Why would just over 30 pitches take either of those guys out of the rest of the tournament? It wouldn't.

The question is will he consider jump if we make it to Sunday. It'll be on 5 days rest . I doubt he does but I guarantee it will be a question raised by many if the situation presents itself by us winning Saturday. Remember though, the team we play Saturday will be in worse shape than us when it comes to available arms. It just comes down to what team has a couple guys do something they glhavent been asked to do or haven't done this season.
The question is which coach decides to throw a weekend guy that hasn't pitched yet or is on 5 days rest. If one coach does it and the other doesn't then it'll be a huge advantage for someone . It's really about who is really putting the most value on an sec tourney championship.
I believe the answer is that none of the coaches are putting that much value on this tournament to throw an ace on 5 days rest.
Are we the only team left that's thrown weekend guys so far?

It would be 4 days rest for Jump, which is normal rest in the majors, but obviously not normal for college pitchers. He just pitched on 4 days rest for the 1st time ever, so I would say there is zero chance he does it twice in a row in a non "must win" situation. They could theoretically bring him in for an inning and treat it as an in-game bullpen session. That's an idea you hear a lot every year in these situations, but it rarely actually happens in reality. When it does happen, it's typically with the season on the line.
And yes, I agree that none of these teams will be pushing any of their pitchers over their limits to obtain a tournament title that they don't need in order to get an NCAA tourney berth. Which means we are at no greater disadvantage than anyone else, and by avoiding the losers bracket we'll at least have plenty of available arms, even if they aren't all the most reliable.
I'm pretty sure everyone has already thrown their best, who are still alive. Tennessee probably still has a good amount of quality arms left, but they won't by Sunday if they get that far. So if LSU can win on Saturday, no matter who they would play on Sunday, it would be a fairly even matchup at worst.

Jump and Holman will both throw again in Hoover. They are each due for a bullpen session this weekend. Might as well fire them bullets live. I'd start Jump Saturday and Holman Sunday. Let them go through their normal routine and have them on a strict pitch count. 15-20 pitches, max

3 5 pitch strikeouts is 15 pitches.

Understood. you don't do anything to jeopardize next weekend. Juice ain't worth the squeeze.
But if they are gonna throw a bullpen to "stay on schedule" might as well make them count. Treat them like openers.
Whatever Jay and Yeskie decide I'm cool with... just how I would play it.

As far as Griffin, it would be better for him to pitch in a game I would think. I don’t want a reliever having 10 days rest, especially when he’s pitching as well as he is. Keep it going.

Rather see him Saturday and not Sunday.

he will be good for 30 or 40
