Former LSU football coach Ed Orgeron’s divorce case will go before the Louisiana Supreme Court to determine whether his former wife is owed money from his multimillion dollar contracts and buyout with the university.
Orgeron filed for divorce from his wife, Kelly, in 2020 shortly after winning the College Football National Championship. Kelly Orgeron responded by filing a petition in St. Tammany Parish asking for spousal support and division of their assets, including money that Ed Orgeron received from LSU coaching contracts.
But as the divorce proceedings continued, Orgeron was fired from LSU with a $17 million buyout. So far, the courts have ruled that Kelly Orgeron is not entitled to that money because he started receiving it after the two had separated.
She has appealed, and the Louisiana Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear arguments on the case.

Hand her a million or two is my take on it.

This is really a bad look for O.
The payment was for a contractual obligation earned during their marriage and I have little doubt she paid a high price to put him in a position to get that contract.

Yes…they were married when he signed the contract with the expectation to complete it

I'm sure this eminent group of learned jurists will make a wise decision.

It’s your property at the time you earn it.
at the time he “earned” this money, they weren’t married.
i’d be shocked if they gave her any.

Community property state
She may be entitled up to half. The real winners here will be attorneys

I wonder if Rosy Finch Boyz LLC has something to say about this?

Some people here really hate Coach O for proving them wrong and putting together the greatest college football team ever.

If he was getting paid this money as a salary for work done after the divorce, she wouldn't be entitled to any part of it. The income would be his separate property.
He's just getting paid to not work. His salary was guaranteed.

It’s a guarantee payout, but under certain conditions. He has to perform the post termination conditions to “earn”. My belief is that the LASC will rely on this to rule that its post termination separate property. O and only O can perform the personal obligations to “earn” the money.

Too late it was all spent in Destin

Precedent says Republican justices will side with the husband over the woman. #MAGA

I don’t hate O, but community property applies to salary and would apply here unless she surrendered her right in the divorce.
