That is an absolute plus. Can’t tell me a deep Omaha run doesn’t affect the portal. I understand it is what it is. I’ll take the positive for sure.

How about hitters who can drive the ball rather than send it straight up? Purely using our two games in Hoover as the control group, that was our main problem. Pitchers did enough for us to win those games imo. And we were missing Schimdt and Cooper.

In fact, maybe hire a hitting coach.

Louisiana Dodgers
It’s a pretty good source for elite baseball players.

First order of business. Pitchers who can throw strikes and mix it up.

First, outfielders who toss between innings.

He'll get it together. He's a phenomenal ball coach for the modern era of NCAA baseball. The portal is what the portal is, you get some good ones and you get some really bad ones.

I think we need 2-3 arms and 3-4 position players that can be difference makers from day one to go with what's returning and what's coming in the recruiting class. I'm not exactly sure how the pitching shakes out but I'm glad to have Evans and Schmidt back

If we go get 2 lock starters, at least one of those two won’t be here next year. Possibly both. They aren’t going to take demotions before their money seasons start. That’s just reality.

I’m not saying Jay shouldn’t explore bringing in an experienced starter, but some of you need to wake up. I’ve seen people here talking casually about just moving Evans back to the pen as if it doesn’t even occur to them that he would almost certainly leave to be a lock starter somewhere else.

So yes, no one should be guaranteed anything and Jay has a job to do. But there would be consequences to some of the portal decisions people here are advocating.

You could quote my entire post. I said 1-2 starters and a wipe out reliever. 1 starter if Moore is an option, 2 if he's not an option. I already feel like I explain too much on here so I apologize if you think that means I'm sleeping. I'm not sorry for wanting 1-2 more front end starters, with a big question mark on Moore.

We need every position player but 1st base (Braun) and catcher although they were sub par defensively this year, hopefully they step up that part of their game.

Lots of holes to fill and not yet sold on any of the other freshman position players we played this year.

He has plenty of time to put a solid team together for 2027 and get the LSU brand back to the post season. Its easy when you can run 2 guys out on the mound that are 1A and 1B. That doesnt happen very often. Now its time to grind and find the next way to be successful in the portal era! Geaux Tigers

I expect him to bring 6-7 pitchers in from the portal. That 100% has to be the priority. Who realistically makes it next year on our staff?

Locks:
Schmidt
Evans
Moore
Ricken
Paz
Sheerin (think he’s draft eligible)

Questionable:
Plog? Maybe
Guidry
Lachenmeyer
Rizy? How bad was he this year…
Cooper Williams - same as Rizy

Who we missing? Does Cowan go 5 for 5? Noot is listed as a junior…he was about worthless this year.

hitting was not the problem for this team this year once the freshmen came in and took the portal guys spots. Fielding and consistently throwing strikes were the main issues.

I mean that’s pretty normal for any year.

He was a year too early with Schmidt & Evans, but there is a zero chance these guys aren’t in the weekend rotation again next year.
