What is the difference between the two?

The official team stats have PP with:

35 solo tackles
5 assists
40 total tackles
2 INT
Passes broken up (BU) 12
Passes defended (PD) 14

Is a break-up also a pass defended or are they separate?

TIA

I think broken up is when you actually knock the ball away
Passes defensed means they were not completed on your coverage

There have been more than 26 passes knocked away or incomplete while PP was in coverage I would think....????

Broken up = Passes broken up by the defender, but not intercepted

Defensed = Passes broken up by the defender and intercepted

I think this is right. Defended means the receiver didn't catch it while you were covering him, and broken up means you actually touched the ball and knocked it away. Anyone else got a better idea?

I guess that's what I thought it might be.

If that's what it is, PD is a very subjective stat then. An incomplete pass can be caused by many things - QB accuracy, receiver's ability, weather, tight defense making QB throw where catch is difficult, etc.).

Whatever the case may be, PPs stats show that we would be in big trouble if not for him. He has probably made a 2 or 3 game difference in our record mostly by himself.

I'm pretty sure
Passes Defended = Passes broken up + Interceptions
