He's been in a slump. Last year, always seemed to be a big part of these big moments in big games. A catalyst, if you will. Ditto, the early part of this year.

Last night, he struck out meekly for the first outing of the inning. I just have a feeling that last night's win might be the catalyst to change his trajectory. He's gonna finish this series strong while flying under the radar...

Would be great to see.

People have been on jones and Frey, but I’ve paid more attention to this here.
Now-all that being said- can you imagine Braswell, Jones, Frey, and Milam all getting it going again at just the right time? This team would be unbeatable.

It's a long, grinding SEC season..... he will come out of it eventually.

I think it's just a matter of time until he gets hot.

Not counting last night, he was 5-34 on the last 3 SEC weekends.

It happens to good players. They'll struggle at times, and show up in big moments when they matter despite the struggles, like Jared Jones last night.

MIlam will turn it around and play well in the postseason. He's too good a player.

That swing in the 9th inning last night to get the strikeout was as ugly as I’ve ever seen but he’s also the monster that’s won games for us with his bat this year and is a team leader. I’ll bet he gets right by the postseason. Definitely doesn’t seem he’s been any colder than Frey or Jones and Jones broke out at the perfect time last night. Milam will too

the people calling them trash last night in the game thread

People focus on Jones because he is supposed to be the best hitter on the team, so he naturally gets the spotlight. People focus on Frey because him being in the DH spot means you can literally replace him with anyone. Milam doesn’t get focused on because he didn’t have as big of expectations and is a crucial part of the defense.

From memory, last year he was hot pre-SEC... then slumped pretty hard for the first half of SEC Play, and turned it back on, right about now during the season...
Just off memory, that's what it seems like.

With the way he has played ss this season he’s saving runs

You are correct. Milam hit .265 in SEC play last year

I think that Milam really turned it on around the time of the SEC Tournament, maybe a few weekends before that. I want to say that he started to flash his power ability in the tournament.

In fairness, I think it was 0-2, and that pitch was absolutley filthy to a LHH coming off that fastball. Not many guys are gonna be able to put a better swing on it or be able to lay off of it.

It’s not those swings, it’s the missing the fastballs over the plate early in the count and fouling them off. But he looks like he’s putting better swings on them, so I think we may break out of it soon.

Said this last night. Milam has been slumping. We will see tonight. He has played a good SS though.

I just felt like last night was a rock bottom type of night. He didn't have quality at bats and he didn't seem to be focused. Last year, he took over in a number of games when the situation was bleak. Last night, he didn't, but watched the other guys pick him up.

If I was me, seeing all the guys that helped lead that comeback would help me focus.

Well, Milam did okay last night. The rest of the team needs to do what he's doing...

I wonder who’s gonna ride the winning steed in the Derby next weekend, him or Jay?

Should be competitive
