For some reason when Tre Harris came out of Comeaux High in Lafayette, at 6 ft. 3 inch, 190 lbs, Harris was listed by recruiting services as an athlete, not a receiver. He was a two star recruit ranked 227 at his position, 98th best player in La and way, way down the national ranking list as the 2258th best player.

Lol. We all know recruiting rankings are subjective and that every now and then a 2 star will end up being a first round nfl pick. But Harris was 98th in La? Thats a monster swing and miss by the recruiting services and division 1 college scouts.

Harris is a big, physical receiver who wants the ball more than the other guys do when the ball is in the air, kind of like a bigger Jarvis Landry. Did Harris not flash any of these skills in high school?

Supposedly college coaches who scout and recruit are not influenced by the recruiting services. But imagine the meltdown if LSU had taken the state’s 98th ranked player in its 2020 class.

Just to compare, whenever LSU picks up a 3 star and folks complain about it, someone will inevitably play the Jacob Hester card and how everyone missed on him. But Hester was the 27th ranked player in his class and someone at LSU did see his potential. Harris was 98th best player in La.

So the 247 recruiting site had a chance to correct its error when they ranked Harris as a transfer, but they swung and missed again. Harris was the 28th ranked wr as a transfer after playing well at La Tech. Credit Kiffin or someone at Ole Miss for stealing Harris.

Just out of curiosity, does anyone on here from the Laf area remember Harris from Comeaux? Why was he rated so low? Did he just develop out of the blue in college?

So do you know who else LSU missed on at wr in the 2020 class? Kyren Lacy. But Lacy actually was highly ranked, he was the states 12th best player and second best receiver after Kayshon Boutte in some rankings. LSU took Koy Moore instead iof Lacy that year.

As one more interesting side note, Tre Harris was in the same transfer class as Aaron Anderson and Keon Coleman, but they were both ranked higher. Anderson keeps getting better, no complaints here on that.

The same really bad high school team, I don't think they have had a winning season since 2013.

I attended several Comeaux HS games and watched Tre Harris in person. He was a 6’0” 185 QB who was their entire offense. Malik was his WR until Nabers went to Southside and was ruled ineligible by the LHSAA . Comeaux was always the district doormat and never had a winning record when Harris was the QB (4-8, 5-7). Tre was never gonna play QB in college and was sold on playing WR by LA Tech HC Skip Holtz . With Tech’s passing game history, Tre was told he could be developed into the next Troy Edwards.

Okay, that actually explains a lot. Harris is such a great receiver, it made no sense to me that the recruiting services listed him as an athlete. He was a high school qb, now it makes sense. Even so, there are lots of kids who play qb in high school who are listed as athletes because they are not colleg qb prospects and still are very highly rated.

And you would think Harris flashed a lot of skills in high school. He may have had two things working against him. The first is that he was on a crappy team. And he probably did not go to any camps where he could show his stuff. I also wonder if he had any support at Comeaux. Some high school football coaches are a lot better than others at getting film of their players to college scouts and coaches and promoting them.

For whatever reason, its not often you see mothers 98th best player in a small state going to the NFL. I hate to see an La kid we had two chances to get excel against LSU as Harris has. I wonder if we offered him as a transfer. It might just be we had room for just one transfer at wr that year and the staff thought Anderson was the better player. I probably would have made the same decision.
