I know a lot of attention in the backend has obviously gone to zy he’s been a stud and looks like a classic lsu corner. We’ve also pointed out the good ball major burns has played and the solid improvement stamps had made. However, an underrated piece to the backend improvising true freshmen pj woodland. He’s the best athlete in the corner room and a very sticky cover guy.

His emergence has actually allowed us to move him into the slot next to stamps and zy on pasisng downs to cover the shifty slot wr which has allowed major burns to not only have to cover those type of guys consistently but lets burns do what he does best which is blitz. His role will only continue to grow as we continue facing teams with multiple explosive playmakers like bama and Florida.

Did he play against Arkansas? I didn't see his name called much, which as a corner is a great thing

I’m not sure this is true. It looks like his role is decreasing now that Zy is healthy. He only played 12/87 defensive snaps against Ole Miss which is the most explosive offense we have faced.

I believe he mostly played the 4th quarter of that game. The slot wr cayden lee was giving us some issues so the defensive staff put him in the game to try to slow him down. He gave up the 3rd and 15 throw to him. However, later in the 4th quarter after we tied the game he made a huge PBU on that same wr to help keep Ole Miss outta field goal range and send the game to OT

I beleive he played around 15 defensive snaps. He had tight coverage and solid open field tackling when he was in . Staff prob thot his lack of size ( i believe he’s 170) would be an issue vs a run heavy Arkansas squad

With 3 minutes left in the game w Ole Miss Woodland was in and made a critical pass breakup and was targeted by OM so Kelly must have confidence in him.

Agreed the kid is twitchy as hell and can run with just about any receiver. He was the best HS player in Mississippi for a reason. If he played at a bigger HS he easily would’ve been a high 4 star. Another underrated aspect with him is he’s a quick learner. I remember the usc game he got called for a PI on a deep pass attempt for usc the very next played they tried a deep ball on his side again and he played it perfectly. Then vs ole Miss he got beat on an out route in off coverage then later on lane kiffin dialed up the same play he woodland that this time he pressed the wideout and stuck to the out route like glue to break up the pass.

The staff probably knows he’s our most twitchy and most athletic corner. You need him on the field against teams like ole Miss

Nah he’s from Hattiesburg Mississippi. He actually was committed to Miss State for a while before he flipped and commited to LSU.

You're thinking of Bernard Causey who is from LA and was a depth piece/class filler after Bates and Evans decommitted.

Woodland would be a take in any class.

If I’m the coach woodland is on the bench until he can explain to me why he wears two mouthpieces strapped to his helmet and doesn’t use either one

I know for sure the first couple of weeks he was doing it. You’re right though, I didn’t see it during the Arkansas game because I had to listen to most of it on the radio
