We compared Kelly’s & DiNardo’s first 3 years at LSU… Today let’s do Kelly & Saban

Nick Saban record first three seasons at:
26-12
Brian Kelly first three seasons (so far):

Don’t care the verdict is out on Kelly

Saban won the SEC in his second year.

Saban was still learning his craft

Let's not use logic. We like our delusions.

He also lost at home to #2 Florida 44-15

Anyone using 2002 is being disingenuous. We lose the opener to Va Tech but then start to gel and look very, very good. Unfortunately, Mauck gets hurt in the 4th quarter blowing out Florida (in Gainesville) and the season turns once we have to rely on Randall. Still had a shot to go to SEC Championship game with a win over Arkansas, but rather forget how that one ended.
Regardless, bit of a difference in that our starting QB was gone after game 6 and that's the clear turning point in the season.

Now do record vs top 25 teams

You cannot compare the level of where LSU football was when Saban took over vs Kelly.
Saban had to rebuild the brand and had a way more uphill climb. Kelly was handed the keys to the Ferrari and just had to put new tires on it and keep it between the lines.

With backing in the SEC CG with 3 losses.
If by some miracle we make it this year and upset whoever we play it would be the same.
I’m not high on Kelly. In fact I’d rather him be fired but this is the facts

We literally had 35 people on scholarship coming off the heals of a blow out lose to KState with a WR at QB when he took over.

I don’t get what people don’t understand about the transfer portal. It doesn’t take 4 years to rebuild a program when you have the transfer portal.

One could argue while the brand was “better” the underlying issues were worse.
Saban inherited a team that already had Rohan davey Josh reed jarvis green, bradie james etc etc.
Kelly inherited a team that started a WR as QB for its last game

You’re gonna get the fake scholarship number excuse but Saban only had 19 guys here plus his recruits who made it to an NFL practice squad or better. Kelly inherited much better talent, the established recruiting advantages and support that all comes from what Saban built. The situation was much worse in 1999, the very fact that we were able to attract and pay for a coach of Kelly’s stature proves it was. No way he’d have taken this job with the situation in 1999.

Seeing as I started the DiNardo thread yesterday, as others have said, you ignore circumstances and available tools to “rebuild”.
Saban and DiNardo did not have the luxury of free agency with proven college players like Kelly has had. DiNardo took over a team coming off 7 straight losing seasons, and Saban having the last SEC title over a decade before he took over and NC over 40 years before he took over.
Kelly took over a team 2 years removed from an NC, SEC title, and Heisman winner.
Saban had LSU winning the SEC in year two. He had them 6-1 with a major injury to his starting QB that hurt. While LSU has had injuries this year, their offense has not been missing anyone other than Hilton consistently this season.
Kelly’s team has regressed in both sides of the ball as the season has progressed with mostly outgoing talent taking all the snaps and little experience for the youngsters that will take over next season.
LSU was primed to win an NC in 2003 following year 3, while most actually expect year 4 for Kelly to be worse than year 3.

I’m so tired of people comparing Kelly to other coaches. Especially Saban

What are you even talking about
LSU started the year 3-3.
Rohan got hurt in the SEC CG.

Nick Saban's coaching record before LSU was 43–36–1
Before becoming the head football coach at LSU in 2022, Brian Kelly's coaching record was:
Central Michigan: 19-16 over three seasons
Cincinnati: 34-6 over three or more seasons
Notre Dame: 113-40 over 12 seasons
I relent to the next rantard
