What is the origin of the corn dogs nickname?

Watching Katy Perry yesterday, I was reminded that this nickname makes no sense. What is the origin? Nothing about Louisiana or LSU has anything to do with corn dogs.

it came from an old joke iowa fans used to call iowa state fans.
only a moron would use it towards lsu fans.

That is the point. It doesn't make sense an irritates a small percentage of LSU fan's which is the reason it keeps being used.
I was walking down the street yesterday and a pissed off LSU girl was talking to her friend saying "Do I smell like a corndog???? Smell me motherfricker!"
My LSU wife was even laughing at her, so it just brings out the insecure fans for others to laugh at. Most normal fans just laugh it off and move on.

So you are proving my point. No one actually thinks an LSU fan smells like corndogs. The reactions from some are what make fanbases say it. There is a minority that it actually annoys, which makes it worthy of sticking around.
