I think anyone short of Tim Corbin and people would want him fired. Ray Tanner isn't coming and neither is Pat Casey. Both of them have won multiple nattys.

Well, you guys should google him and look into this:

The married (separated) lady he was sleeping with had her kids murdered by her ex in a murder suicide a few weeks ago. Ex killed both her boys and himself because she was sleeping with Kevin O'Sullivan, who was somehow connected to the boys through youth baseball when he met the mom.

Absolute tragedy and evil act.

It also puts some radioactivity on O'Sullivan I think.

Those 3 coaches are considered elite, but what is interesting for all of them is how long it took them to get there at their respective schools.

Corbin: 9 years just to reach Omaha, 12 to get his first title.

Casey: 11 years just to get into the NCAA Tournament (same time to get to Omaha), 12 years to get first title.

Ray Tanner: 6 years to get to Omaha, 14 to get first title.

Ehhh, I doubt it, because he had a hell of a run from 2015-2018 with a natty (over us). They had a disappointing 2019 season, but they were off to a GREAT start in 2020 before it ended...meanwhile our 2020 season was looking as bad maybe even worse than this year, who knows how it would have turned out though.

Hard to ignore in the last 7 years possible Sully has won
at least 17 regular season conference games in 6 of those 7 seasons, 5 of those 7 seasons were 19 wins or more. That's pretty great consistency in the winning dept. Even in the 1 year he didnt, they still made the NCAAT.

Point being he's seemingly done better more recently than Mainieri has. People are really tired of Mainieri because seemingly we'll have gone 4 years without a trip to the CWS, and we all pretty much know that 2020 team didnt have much of a shot even if that season played out (meanwhile Sully's team probably had a great shot of not only making it but being a title contender).

He is widely-viewed as one of the top coaches in CBB, so there would certainly be no reason to melt if he was the hire, but as stated above, it just feels like LSU needs a jolt of youth and energy and someone hungry to climb the mountain.

At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if the hire is young or middle-aged or energetic or not or safe or risky, winning is all that matters. At a place like LSU, just win and the “energy” will take care of itself with our baseball support.

I keep going back-and-forth in my own head ...Vitello sounds like an exciting hire, but damn it’s risky. And does someone with that short a HC resume at this point (no CWS or even Super appearances as HC) really yet deserve a job like LSU? On the other hand OSullivan has one of the best resumes in the business but is a relatively safe hire probably with a little less rah-rah and the hardcore fans won’t really be juiced and energized about the hire.

It’s a tough call IMO... the good news is if we’re deciding between those 2, it’s a good position to be in.

We were in Omaha '08, '09, '13, '15, and '17. Shouldn't that be 5 CWS?

Maybe I'm not following your convention.

To the best of my knowledge, there isn't a search to conduct yet.

Did Paul retire and I missed it?

The disappointment will come when he doesn't retire.

I think it’s what level each season “ended.” Ie, if you made the CWS it’s not counted as a Super, etc.

Corbin's success really improved a year or two after the Opportunity Vanderbilt Scholarship program started

I like O Sullivan. People would like his attitude if he was coaching here.

It’s all because he looks like Sloth from The Goonies. I just can’t stand the way he looks.

my guess is LSU is a better program historically and LSU would pay more but that is just a guess.

Exactly. Why would anyone leave a state with 20,000,000. people with an academic scholarship program to come to LA. Look at his roster, one player from Illinois and the rest from Florida.

He has a similar record to PM with more talent. He can get great pitchers to school but……he’s not leaving Florida for LSU.

Doesn’t he have young kids?
I remember seeing a little boy in the dugout on tv

From Wiki
quote:

O'Sullivan has one daughter, Payton, born in January 2011, and son, Finn, born in 2013

Googled his name & divorce

From 2017

ETA
Read they were divorced in 2017

That’s absolutely horrible
I assumed family meant he & wife & was confused after reading they had been divorced a few years
