AMEX Blue Cash Everyday Card

I'm looking at getting this card.
I have an AMEX for business, but am looking to replace my debit card purchasing (which is how I pay for most everything currently) with a credit card.
I'm not looking to get travel points, pay an annual fee, or even feel the need for the 0% as I will pay off each month. I just want security purchasing and some cash back for everyday purchases.
Is this a good one?
Thanks

I think the preferred card is a much better deal if you get your groceries at a grocery store and not Walmart/target
I have 3 cards with annual fees and the benefits on all of them outweigh the fee
You can probably get the first annual fee waived and downgrade the card later if you really want
Eta: if you want a basic cash back card with no fee, I'd prefer the citi double cash over the BCE

If you plan on using it to do grocery spending, get the preferred. Buying >$2500/year in groceries makes the preferred more valuable than everyday ($5000 cap)
Keep in mind that you can buy gift cards at most grocery stores. For example, I buy my Amazon gift cards from Kroger and therefore get 6% back on all Amazon purchsaes (gas, airline, and more options)
Finally, if you have a store near you that offers fuel rewards, you can really maximize your return. Kroger offers 2x fuel points on gift cards. So I can buy a $50 shell GC w/ 6% rewards and get $0.10 off /gallon. Comes out to about ~10% caseback for every 1$ on gas

Before they did, the gift card trick was a very useful exploit

I had that card for 2 years then recently upgraded to the preferred ($75 yearly fee). It's great. Would highly recommend. Hard to beat 6% on groceries and 3% on gas.
ETA: 3% groceries and 2% gas for the free card you're referring to.

I actually switched to the Penfed card for my gas purchases
It's 5% CB and its a visa so it's accepted at racetrac, unlike amex
I did, however, just join Costco, so I've been purchasing some gas there on my amex BCP

Holy hell. I have never thought about that gift card trick. I think you just changed my life.

Thanks guys, looks like the Preferred card is the preferred way to go with AMEX.

Interesting. I have a Visa Amazon rewards card that I get 3% back on Amazon purchases (also 2% gas and restaurants). Seems like the smart play is just buy Amazon gift cards with the BCP at grocery stores then look into a card like the Penfed for gas.

I also have a citi forward card which gets me 5 points per dollar at Amazon, but I don't think they offer the card anymore
Not sure what will happen when next renewal comes up

Have that also, but it just took a backseat to some new cards. I now have that, 2 rotating categories cards (chase freedom is 5% on gas this quarter, and some Citi card I signed up for to get a free buffet at Gatti's Pizza when I was a freshman @ LSU), and a Citi Double cash card that's 2% on everything no limits. Also a Best Buy card that's 5-6% on purchases at best buy, which is great if you are all about dropping an unnecessary amount of dough at that place.
Does that Amex card have a strict list of what qualifies as a grocery store besides no walmart/target? Would a local place like Rouses qualify? That gift card idea is fantastic

Rouses qualified as grocery for me
Actually, even the Walmart neighborhood market rings up as grocery on my amex
It doesn't have to be a big name store, just has to be coded as a grocery store
The fruit stand by my house doesn't qualify, but I never spend more than 10-15 bucks there anyway

I am going here and then to Winn Dixie after work today to look for gift cards solely because of this thread. I may spend $1000.

Walmart neighborhood market is primarily a grocery store so they report as grocery store. Generic walmart stores don't

If you are married, you can open two accounts for each spouse. If you spend $625+/mo ($7500+/yr) at grocery stores this is what you should be doing. If you max the cap of $12,000/YR at grocery stores, you will earn $570/year (4.75%) when you take out annual fees.
**Fuel rewards stores at $0.10/gallon for every $100 will be 200+$ in rewards for cars that have >16gallon tanks. For 2x gift card programs, every $100 in GC = $1 in savings for 10 gallon tanks (multiple by Tanksize/10 to get your rate)
You can get Amazon, Target, Lowes/HD, and other gift cards for discretionary spending to maximize your return.
