Been doing it for 8 years. The old moonwalkforum.com boards are dead now and I can't find any Reddit groups. Just looking for someone to bounce ideas off of.
In the mean time, if anybodys thought about getting into the business, just let me know and I'll answer whatever questions I can.

Right before Covid a guy down the street from me owned 4 of them that he had set up in a strip mall shop and did a mini jump zone type of place. He changed businesses and fire sold them all so I own a full size 12x12 I think maybe its 14x14 its huge, that's all I know. My kids love it. But its a PITA to move around. I can see it being a solid side hustle.

Does it have its ups & downs?

A buddy and I have been interested. Space and labor requirements being the main detractors. Is the hustle worth it? Do you have a warehouse to store and dry? How is liability insurance?

Water slides seem like the way to make money, but you’ll be working for it. Those mf’ers are heavy especially when wet

I did this for work while in college and saw the money the guy was making every weekend. At this point at least in SWLA, the market seems to be really saturated to start a business like this.

I’m guessing inflation helps with your business.

Somewhere around 90 percent of your rentals would be on the weekend, which is a buzzkill. If you and your buddy are relatively strong or at least not complete weenies, you could alternate weekends. In terms of space, the best way to do it would just be buy a cheap carport and keep them covered with tarps, assuming you dont live in some neigbhorhood with a dooshy HOA.
Cleaning is the most aggravating part. You have to blow them back up during the week and clean them. And if it rained that weekend or it was a watersldie, you have to dry it out and the inflatables are heavy as hell, like the other guy said.
Wouldn't be much clerical work, aside from marketing and social media. There are two or three different services taht build the website for you and let customers reserve online for about 200 dollars month. It's more like being a delivery guy than a business owner.
It's not a bad side hustle, but it's also not god's gift to side hustles. Probably just do some more research and ask your buddy to do the same and then talk about it later. If you do it for this year, you'd want to be up and running by Easter weekend. That's always one cof the biggegst weekend.

My BIL does it and does pretty well in a small town for a side hustle. As others have said, kiss your weekends goodbye unless you scale and hire. At that point, you are hiring low wage help that is very unreliable.

I’ve heard liability insurance is crazy for these.

Hauling those things around, fuel, time, dealing with parents, kids, rain, setup, breakdown, storage, repairs, insurance… for a couple hundred bucks here and there, losing weekends with family.
Seems like something you have to really want to do, have passion for, which I respect. If that’s the case, go for it and make some side money.
