Best place to buy new tires

Have an older model BMW that needs new tires. What is the best place to purchase new tires? Dealership or a tire shop such as Tire Kingdom or United Tires?

I distribute tires to tire shops. I would go with a reputable, independent shop. It's very hit/miss with tire chains. You can usually get the same deals at an independent shop and they will value your business a lot more than a chain or the dealership.
The general consensus is to steer clear of the dealerships after your warranty has expired.

Sams has good prices on tires. My experience with them was good.

If you're a Costco member, I generally find that they have the best prices. I've had to replace 2 tires on my vehicle in the last 6 months b/c of running over shite. First time I went to Chabill's and second time I ordered from Costco. Costco was about $100-150 cheaper for the exact same tire.

I used to order from Tirerack and have it ship to an indy shop. However, I now use Discount Tire and have had good experiences with them.
Also, I've had to use Discount Tire's insurance a few times from nails or damage from pot holes. Never had an issue with getting a new replacement tire.
I have a couple friends who have had issues with Costco before. So I personally wouldn't use them.

Same same…. Or both, actually.. last year needed new tires for my SUV, went to Costco and they were having a great sale on Michelins.. went down the road to Discount Tire to compare.. they asked me to show them the price on the Costco website and then they told me they’d match it, so i just went ahead and got the tires there, took less than an hour .

they will, for free, rotate or repair tires regardless of where they were bought.
they pricematched my last set of tires with costcos pre-tax amount. So saved what I would have had to pay as taxes with costco.
Also, you can get rotations as often as you want. Costco has mileage limitations.

I'm a huge fan of discount tire and their warranty.
I some how usually get a screw in my tire, too close to the side of the tire.
Discount tire will replace said tire, only cost to you is if tire price went up since you purchased. Even if the screw may have magically ended up there when the tire is 3 years old and has 50k miles on it.
I don't know if it is unethical or not, but I haven't paid full purchase price for tires in about 5 years.

This is why we can’t have nice things.
Stuff like that is why LL Bean got rid of their lifetime warranty on products. People were returning 10 year old one out boots, tents, etc.

That’s BS and just straight fraud if you are putting a nail in your own tire.
I have used Costco and Tire Rack without issues.

I found a smoking deal on my tires at Amazon. They were about $60 cheaper per tire. I was able to purchase the tires, ship them to the tire shop, and schedule the work all through Amazon. You won't get the 70,000 mile warranty or whatever, but you'll save money on the purchase.
