What would be an approximate monthly cost to hire a bookkeeping service to keep the books of a small business--Financial statements, journel entries, check acct. reconcilation, weekly payroll for 6 employess, etc?

The guy I worked for last summer charged 200-250/month for monthly books.

Depends on the type of business, number of transaction, cash or accrual basis, and if you have inventory.
I work in a CPA firm and we don't do many accounts for less than $500 - $700 per month, some more. There are some independent accounting firms (non CPA) that may be able to provide the service for less.

I have a small construction company and I get mine done monthly for $250. This includes inputting monthly job costs into Quickbooks, financial statements, cost coding, and some other mundane bookkeeping tasks that I have not desire to do. This is for an average of 15 employees.

Does it include payroll for those 15 employees?

I write the checks, based on time sheets, but she codes their hours worked to each particular job based on these time sheets. I give her each month's time sheets, bank statements, and major purchase receipts. She puts it all in quickbooks coded to each job.
