Etrade Lag Time Is Ridiculous

The lag time between Etrade's quote and the real time actual market price is crazy, especially first thing in the morning. Blackberry took off this morning and topped $20 briefly. I could have sold and recouped all my money, but by the time Etrade actually started showing the stock prices it had dropped back down to below $17.00 and only dropped from there. I'm hoping it goes on a run again tomorrow so I can dump it. Gonna go ahead and set a sale price to hopefully avoid this from happening again tomorrow.

To be fair, the open on these meme stocks has been insane. The market buy and sell volume is astronomical so many of these quotes are useless the moment the populate the screen. Limit orders are the only way to go when trading these things IMO.

Yeah...that 15 minute delay can cost you a lot of money. I advise checking other websites for live pricing.

I just realized today my Etrade account was able to get free real time quotes. Not sure if that's based on number of trades, account balance, or whatever, but it's great.

How do you turn that setting on?

Profile > Account Preferences > Market Data Subscriptions (it's toward the bottom).
You may also need to complete the market data agreement.

You can change it to real time. Otherwise they are 15 min delayed.

Everyone on Etrade: it's highly recommended to at least use Power Etrade.
The base website is only good for research.

Yeah, someone else mentioned this. I never knew I had an option to switch over. I always thought etrade's service just sucked with the lag time.
Tips like this make it worth the price of admission (to TD)!!!

I would assume the basic site is for people who buy and hold. You don't care about minutes unless you're swing trading or jumping on meme stocks.

Funny, I was just thinking on this some more and was coming back to express my annoyance with their default position being a 15 minute lag. Ever if I'm mostly a set and forget it type of trader, I would still think that when I'm on the platform, I would want the most current, up to date information provided to me. What's the friggin' point of giving me 15 minute prices?? Just seems like a stupid default position to me.

Because they often have to pay per user of real time data, and when they’re hardly charging a thing for trades too, margins are important.
Yahoo Finance has free real-time data fwiw.

Not for OTC stocks. CNBC has real time quotes for all stocks.
