I've had a TD Ameritrade account for years and it is converting to Schwab at the end of the month. Does anyone else use Schwab? How is it?

I have a standard brokerage account, a Roth and a Traditional IRA. Sometimes I trade; usually I hold long term.

If Schwab sucks, what are some of the better options?

I have both, so I will be down to just Schwab. No issues, you will be fine.

I love the Schwab platform for researching companies in depth screeners etc.

I’m in the same situation. Did a little research and I think I will like the Schwab layout. Should be comparable.

I haven’t really used a lot of other brokerages, Schwab has been really easy to use for me.

I’ve been with Schwab since 1985,never had a complaint.

Rolled over my 403 B to Fidelity 2010,I’ve been happy with them also.

Same here. I have a Schwab account too, but don’t use it very much. If you’re not an active trader and have no real need for Think or Swim (which is supposed to transfer unchanged, as it’s the main reason Schwab bought TDA), the Schwab platform is similar enough to the basic TDA platform that it’s no big deal.

I only wish they had a dark mode. If anyone knows how to turn their web page to dark mode feel free to tell me.

Schwab's Street Smart Edge Windows app has a dark mode. Can't rem re Think or Swim but I think so. As far as main web page, have not seen any of them do that ... but have not looked at all recently.

I've heard rumblings ... including a post here a while back ... of Schwab wanting Think or Swim (ToS) and moving in that direction - from StreetSmart Edge (SME). If you have a Schwab account and don't want that to happen, you might want to speak up ... to them.

IMO, SME is better for most investors. Very active traders might prefer ToS. SME does have an export option - to ToS, not sure about ToS to SMe. Imo, SME windows app is far better than their web based app.

Regarding just straight stock market research... Old School brokers like Merrill are hard to beat. They put out info/data that exceeds what Schwab, tDa, Fidelity and most self directed platforms offer ... IMO. However, Merrill trading platform is weak and outdated.

It had a dark mode that was easy to toggle up until about a few months ago. Haven't found the new procedure yet and too lazy to chat about it.

I have TD for my HSA account and find it absolutely atrocious to try and find my way around everything. Placing trades, stop losses etc etc. are just mind boggling. Again to me.

I find Schwab so used friendly and so easy to use it’s heads and tails above td IMO.

Funny you should ask. This evening I finished up our taxes and saw we could actually contribute to Roth this year. I already had a Roth at USAA that transferred over to Schwab when USAA got out of the brokerage business years ago. And I thought I had set on up for my wife last year, through Schwab.

So I log in to my wife's account to make a Roth contribution for the 22 tax year, click on My Accounts, and it shows no accounts. I thought that was odd, maybe I just created my wife a Schwab account without actually opening the Roth, so I clicked Create New Account and did the whole Roth process (wasn't too painful). When complete, I go the My Accounts page and there was my newly created Roth Account, right next to the Roth account I thought I had created last year, that hadn't been displayed just 20 minutes earlier.

So... for that reason I'd vote for Fidelity over Schwab.

Had a Schwab account for awhile.

Had to do some IRA min distributions for 2022. One calculated by Schwab didn't look right. Called and they fixed it, very professional.

If you buy and hold Schwab is ok. But if you do more trading, I like Fidelity.

Not so much rumblings as a stated reason for buying TDA. ToS brings in some of the most active traders in the retail industry. According to a call with my TDA rep this weekend, once the Think or Swim customers have been migrated over later this year, Schwab will begin the process of sunsetting SME.
