We were talking about the deepest wells that we've worked on and davy jones and blackbeard came up. Nobody in my office has worked on them or have any info on them.

Were some a bust? Any turn out to be economic? Where are they again?

All of them were busts

So was my investment in gultu

Looking back, not sure how they ever thought they would be economical based on these low nat gas prices

I believe McMoran got one of their money pits to produce. I can't remember the name of the well but I did hear that the plant it was feeding to couldn't handle the volume of gas it produced.

We worked on all of those wells and economics was not in McMoran's vocabulary.

Is it located in South Tim? Do you have any pics of the platform?

They got the one in st Martin parish hooked up and producing last year. It's done 7 or 8 bcf but at 2.00 and 30,000 feet that might be a long time until payout.

St. Martin McMoran well

I have no idea how this can be economic at what it probably cost to drill and complete.

can't remember. I'd have to look up old documentation for actual well numbers and locations. I've got so many for shell it is mind blowing.

nope. didn't do any actual offshore work on that project. I mainly do subsea support for drilling and some completions. I believe all I did on that one was completions support.

I'm 90% sure I worked on this well for a little while back in 2012. This well was a disaster from what I remember. Crazy vibrations while drilling tore our MWD/LWD tools to shreds.

Not a drilling guy but what would cause the vibrations to be so bad?

You know that was like my only job that had bad vibrations and I left MWD for an office job not too long after but from I remember some issues could be: BHA configuration, RPM speeds, WOB (weight on bit), and rock formation. But they weren't making much footage before having MWD/LWD go out and have to trip out of hole.

Looks like a great well for the company providing fishing tools. I counted five fishing jobs and may have missed one plus at least one loss of well control incident and some other great problems to encounter. The ultra deep wells from McMoran have to go down as a massive failure.

I had a buddy who was out there for one of those well who had told me that they had every service company in the book trying to get logs but due to the high temperatures and pressures no one was having any luck. When they sent out the groceries one of the hands had the bright idea of taping the dry ice that was in the boxes to the tool and they were able to get it down and get a log

No. Just no. Your buddy is a liar. I don't even know where to begin on how that can't and did not happen.
