Pelican State Credit Union

I opened a checking and savings account with them in late November. Last week I got a text that was obviously not from the credit union and was a phishing attempt saying that my debit card was locked for suspicious activity and I must click the link to unlock my debit card.
I brought it to the attention of the credit union and they told me it was a scam and to ignore it which worries me.
With Pelican State Credit Union being a Louisiana entity and not national, how would anyone know that I have an account with them to even send that text to my phone. I asked them if their had been any hacks into their systems and was told no. I am not sure I believe that. I don't know how else to explain it.

I have an account with them also and I am an IT Security Person.
Did you pay for anything online and use your phone number or order anything with your phone number?
At that point, if that info is stolen which happens alot, then they know the card is from Pelican by the numbers on the card and then they text your phone number.
It is way more likely that someone else got hacked and not a bank/credit union. I used to work in a bank also.

Thanks. No I have barely used it. I kinda use the account as a back up account to put extra money in

Have used PSCU for many years, I get those messages sometimes but have never had anything occur to my account. I do enjoy the high interest rates that they pay on checking account balances.
