Randy Roussel at Phelps Dunbar, LLP.

Ask around and he will come highly recommended.

Can't disagree. I don't do that kind of work but I know that Phelps Dunbar seems to have their hands in every big real estate deal in the region.

Randy has a good reputation. I've never heard anything special about Steve. Once you reach a certain level of real estate attorney, they are all about as good as one another. We all use the same forms out of the same two or three real estate manuals. We are currently seeking a specialization certification by the Louisiana state bar so that it will be easy to see who all the best real estate atorneys are. It will probably be passed within the year. Some just charge an arse load more for their name.

Steve is excellent. Great on customer service, great on helping the client with the problem. One of the reasons why you now have evening and weekend closings to accomodate the parties is because Steve was one of the first ones to start doing it when places like BR Title and Charles Simmons were strictly 8-5 m-f and if your sellers or buyers couldn't get in from out of town until 7 or if the last day of the month was on a saturday, tough luck. Steve has a great rapport with the realtors and will go to bat for the client if a lender or seller tries to screw him over.

yeah, that was pretty ignorant. Alot more to real estate law practice than that and there is a good reason why it carries the highest e and o coverage for lawyers.

I have been in real estate and dealing with real estate attorneys for 17 years and have been one myself for seven years. Trust me, there is nothing magical about being a real estate attorney once you reach a certain level of experience/expertise. There are a couple dozen such attorneys in the baton rouge area, but you pay more for the names at the big firms.

BS. as someone who has handled QC issues for major lenders, I can tell you that too many of you screw up on closings, title searches, and other areas that require more than a "few forms".

He is right. Go to a place like Phelps and you are going to pay a Phelps price and there isn't any such thing as Phelps quality.
