Why doesn't Airtran or Southwest fly into Baton Rouge?

Is there a conspiracy going on. I'd like to see more lobby efforts by BR leaders to get a discount airline to BR. With over a 500,000 population MSA, this should be a no brainer.

Because they already fly in to New Orleans. Southwests business structure is to fly into a limited number of airports across the US. They are expanding, but there are about 30 cities they will add before one that is 80 miles east of BR.

I hope your right....

Airtran flys into smaller airports than BR...ie, Flint, Michigan comes to mind....trust me BR's airport is just as nice and slightly bigger..

They flew the route several years ago and quit flying the route. Not enough traffic headed east out of BTR to make any money.

If you don't think Airtran could fill one flight a day to Atlanta at "discount" prices your wrong.

I think it' b/c the big airlines pay of the BR Metro administrators for them not to allow a discount airline to come in.

In Louisiana, natural supply=demand rules do not apply.
