That would be as dumb as keeping Checo. They essentially have a shite driver in the #2 seat and two VCARB drivers with no future in that seat. Makes no sense.

Amazing. Looks like they are letting Liam walk.

There will be no change to the driver line-up of Daniel Ricciardo and Yuki Tsunoda at second team RB either, the spokesperson said.

Exciting news for American owned Williams with the Sainz signing.

Albon / Sainz is going to be a formidable driver pairing, and the quali battle will be a close one. Good stuff.

But kept the Williams name and British home.

Not sure there is another seat out there for Liam other than vcarb. Red Bull knows this. And I fully expect he will have that seat next year.

Ha that’s wild, I wonder if it was truly about money or safety.

I agree, that Mclaren is fast as frick, but think RB would take constructors by a landslide if had a competent #2.

maybe, but I don't thing an F1 rookie or Yuki or Danny are going to be that much closer to max.

You may be right, but what you've got going right now isn't working and Mclaren continuing to close the gap.

Down to 46 point spread now.

They don't have to match Max's race pace. Checo's major problem is botching qualy. Danny had a problem with qualy early in the season, but he seems pretty steady now.

My first reaction to that tweet is of course being appalled that the F1 commercial rights holder is interfering with the sporting side of F1.

My second reaction is, MEXICO NEEDS TO FIND A NEW NATIONAL HERO.

Someone in that twitter thread had a good idea. Sign Pato O'Ward immediately. Put him in the VCARB for now and Mexico will have someone to root for. Pato would be an instant hit with the Mexicon fans, who already know him.

Pato is a great driver and very fast. The reason he hasn't won an IndyCar championship yet is (IMO) he has that weird latin temperament that does not serve you well when things get intense. If Pato had absorbed Scott Dixon's super cool and calculating approach to racing, he would have been a champion by now.

IndyCar team owners generally do not interfere when a driver has an F1 opportunity, for the obvious reason that an F1 hopeful (e.g., a recent F2 driver) wouldn't want to drive for you if they felt you might hinder any F1 opportunity that may come along. The problem here of course is that Zak Brown might not let Pato go to a competitor in the middle of the season. Alex Palou was smart to back out of driving for McLaren, even if it is going to cost him money. Zak Brown is just too shady.

Edit: Whoops, had to look this up. Pato O'Ward is eligible for an FIA Super Licence after finishing P4 in last year's IndyCar championship.

Do they really think Mexico wouldn't sell out if Checo wasn't there

Was avoiding the F1 thread because I wasn't able to watch the race until last night so wanted to avoid spoilers.

Didn't expect to see the news about Sainz signing with Williams. Kind of pumped about that, my two favorite drivers on a team I hope can make a jump. Hopefully the car improves.

Really surprised Ferrari didn't go the Russell route with Sainze. He was at 20 laps on the first set of hards and still had pace. Should have just let him take them another lap or two and risked it with another set of hards. That pair of mediums for 5-6 laps was pointless.

Wait, what?

Now you know how we all felt as well. Was a couple pounds light. Cool down lap of track picking up rubber marbles on tires likely would have made that up but they don’t do those cool down laps at SPA
