I have often wondered how many championships Earnhardt Sr and Jeff Gordon would have won had Tim Richmond, Alan Kulwicki, and Davey Allison not have died prematurely.

Richmond would have been a superstar.

I don't remember this guy at all. I'm not a NASCAR fan, but I would have thought that I would have known his name.

Good story.

I hate nascar but I found this 30 for 30 to be one of the best. Really interesting story. After reading more about him it says Tom Cruise's character in Days Of Thunder Cole Trickle was based on Richmond and his crew chief Harry.

First thing I thought of when they had the quote in the documentary "You run 50 laps your way, then run 50 laps my way, and I'll show you which way is faster."

I used to watch races on TV as a kid and I remember Tim Richmond winning some races, but I didn't keep up with it week to week and year to year like I did when I got older. I remember hearing that he had died, but his cause of death wasn't really mentioned in the media. I didn't realize he had died of AIDS until a couple of years later. He and Davey Allison would have definitely won a Winston Cup or two. It's a shame we'll never know.

As soon as they showed what Richmond's crew chief looked like, I knew that's what Days of Thunder had to be based off of. The guy looked just like Robert Duvall in the movie. Great episode.

He pawned Earnhart Sr. in his yellow car back then. I remember him but didn't know he died of the aids.

This was another fluff piece of crap biography of Tim Richmond. The guy was an a-hole who knew he had AIDS but continued to have sex with as many groupies as he could find. I've seen several things on Richmond and the closest to telling the other side of Richmond's life was the 60 minutes story on him that details the timeline of Richmond knowing he had AIDS and the women he infected afterwards. All of which wasnt mentioned until the last 5 minutes of the show in a passing comment and clip. Regardless of how many excuses his family and friends want to make for him or how appealing his lifestyle might seem to others he was a jerk who cost others their lives as well. His redneck sister made the comment about everyone is responsible for their own sex life rationalizing his behavior. She said that the morticians charged an extra $100 because he had AIDS. Well they probably charged the families of Tim Richmonds victims that $100 as well. I was dissapointed in Dr. Jery Punch for not being more frank about the reality of Tim Richmond. Instead he further glamorized one of the true dicks of the sporting world.

Apparently, he knew he had it for around 2 and half years before he died. If he infected any women during that time, that's as irresponsible as one can get.

I remember this when it happened. The AIDS scare was really just coming out in full force. No one really knew what the facts were and how to deal with it. I specifically remember the news story about the kid who caught it from a blood transfusion and wasnt allow to go to school etc.

It was a fluff piece and Richmond ended up being a murderer basically.

While admitting that I know nothing but what I saw last night and what his wiki page says, wasn't his girlfriend from that time on the documentary last night? If so, I'm guessing he not pass AIDS on to her.

I missed the first 20 minutes. The only thing about a girlfriend I saw was the clip from the 60 Minutes interview with her from 1996. In that interview she states that somthing like over a dozen women came out contacted her stating that they had had sex with Richmond between the time that the doctors told him he had AIDS and his passing. There was a relationship of Richmond's who was diagnosed with AIDS who was interviewed in the 60 Minutes story in '96. It was a great piece and in and didnt hold any punches. Richmond's family disgust me as well with all of their excuses and denial.
