What about it?

Ryan is only overrated by people who argue that he’s the GOAT. He wasn’t, but he’s the most entertaining and unique pitcher ever and a deserving first-ballot Hall of Famer.
That's my only point with Nolan Ryan. Way too many walks to be the GOAT is all.
Ripen hit .250 with HRs around 20 for the season numerous times.
Ozzie could not hit his way out of a paper bag. Made tremendous plays, but was not as amazing as people remember from a fielding % perspective.
You have the exact same perspective on Rose as I do.

Re>Chipper’s personal life, being a horndog doesn’t exactly balance out the scales with baseball’s unpardonable sin, i.e. betting on the sport.

Yeah it's real great, but that's ok because you like Chipper because he's just a good ol baw trying to slay poon, nevermind the wake that he's left for his divorced families and bastard child.
quote:
Jones met his first wife, Karin Fulford,[94] while he was playing with the Braves class A affiliate in Macon, Georgia. The couple married in 1992 and divorced in 2000,[95] after it was revealed that Jones had an 18-month extramarital affair with a Hooters waitress that produced a son, Matthew, born in 1998.[96][97][98] He married second wife Sharon Logonov in March 2000 in Pierson, Florida. They have three sons: Larry Wayne III (Trey), Tristen, and Shea, named after Shea Stadium because of Jones's great success in the stadium.[99][100] As of June 14, 2012, Jones and his wife Sharon had separated.[101] Their divorce was finalized in November of the same year.[102] Soon after his divorce from Logonov, Jones began dating former Playboy model Taylor Higgins.[103] Jones and Higgins were married on June 14, 2015.[104] On June 21, 2016, Jones and Higgins announced via Twitter that they were expecting a baby in January 2017.[105] Their son, Cutler Ridge Jones was born on January 11, 2017, in Atlanta.[106] Their second son, Cooper, was born on August 9, 2018.[107]
Again, as my first post stated many of our sports heroes are narcissistic, pieces of shite humans.

I read Chipper’s autobiography and he copped to everything, was totally honest, but I have never come away from reading an autobiography or biography with a worse impression or more dislike for the subject than him. For someone who came from wealth, he’s basically a dumb redneck. But he still was a hellacious player and a no-brainer Hall of Famer. But as I said above, being a horndog isn’t QUITE as bad as what Rose did LOL.

Agree. Chipper was a HOF player on the field, and is a no-brainer HOFer. My point was everyone jumps on Pete for being a piece of shite, which he is, but we pick and choose. As a player Pete should be in the HOF.

When Johnny Bench says it's ok, then it's ok by me. He knows the whole story better than most.

I did not know any of that. Which is why I asked the question, jackass.

One of the absolute greatest players to ever play the sport but isn't in the HOF because of some shady stuff he did as a manager.
You can ban him as a manager but still recognize his greatness as a player.
Same stupid shite as Reggie Bush where they stole his Heisman because he got free rent or whatever.

Pretty sure he was betting as a player also.

As I noted above, a new biography of Rose that came out earlier this year presents compelling evidence that he was betting on baseball in the 1970s, when he was a player. He became a degenerate gambler long ago.

Has not been proven, and he has not been convicted of that. Evidence is hearsay.

Might be in the minority here, but Pete rose comes off as a try hard clown. Apparently he was a piece of work when he played as well. Hard to have sympathy for a guy who appears to be a huge jerk off in all walks of life.

Most likely, but it doesn't take away that he is the all time hits leader and one of the best ever

Watching it now, on episode 3.
I believe he belongs in the HOF as a player.

I started watching this last night.
Pete was a hell of a ballplayer but also a big piece of shite
He should still be in the hall of fame due to what he did on the field

I enjoyed watching this. I got the impression that there is a world full of people that have axes to grind due to the misdeeds of Rose. Whenever he gets public support in the news more skeletons pop out. The gambling is likely the least of the real concern.
Posted on 7/29/24 at 8:47 am to Al Opecia
He’s pretty much kept public support but the old guard in baseball isn’t having it. His greatest advocate Joe Morgan passing really hurt his chances. Then he shows up at Joe Morgan Day and tries to upstage Joe. What a tone deaf clown. He will probably get in eventually but it’s going to be after guys like Johnny Bench pass on.
