Jesus Christ.

quote:

After suffering a spiral and compound fracture to his tibia and fibula in his right leg, Smith developed an infection called necrotizing fasciitis that caused sepsis.

He was forced to undergo 17 different surgeries, and at one point, doctors told Smith that amputating the leg could be his only option.

Despite that daunting news, Smith made it back to the league in one of the more miraculous comeback stories in recent memory.

Can’t believe he actually came back and played after this.

Compound leg fractures are insane. Had a buddy who did that snowboarding and his leg looks like a damn sausage.

I have had 4 surgeries on my legs and they don't look nearly that bad.

ETA:
Smith's leg had some serious skin graphs done on it. Chad's leg looks like they never sewed it up. Sometimes they do skin graphs, and put sponges over it. His wound looks like that was done. They have to come clean it and change the dressing on it every other day. He probably had to have ongoing blood transfusions too. They did that to my leg after I had a fasciotomy in 2011.

I'm honestly surprised he was able to get medical clearance to play again.

Looks exactly like LSU/NYG safety Chad Jones’ leg after his post-car crash recovery.
