Anonymous NFL OC: Mason Rudolph would be the third best QB in this draft class

Behind an ESPN+ paywall, but in talking about the weak QB class this year I thought this snippet was interesting:

Not exactly a glowing endorsement of these guys.

The Steelers' QB plans are also complicated by a few factors -- even beyond the Aaron Rodgers uncertainty. I continue to hear Pittsburgh wants to take a swing on a quarterback in one of the next two drafts, and next year's class is considered stronger. I'm just not sure taking one in the first round in 2025 makes the most sense for them. Consider this: I asked an NFL offensive coordinator where Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph would rank in this draft class, had he been coming out with the rest of the group. The coordinator placed him third.

The unquestioned #1 guy was at Incarnate Word. That says it all really. It’s a miserable class.

Joe Flacco went to Delaware. Kurt Warner went to northern Iowa. Doug Williams went to grambling. Ben Rothlisberger went to Miami Ohio. Aaron Rodgers started at a Juco
This qb class likely sucks, but I wouldn’t really use that as my backup.

Who cares where he went to school at, but he was in school for 5 years. Twice he decided to bypass the draft.

Flacco was in school 5 years and couldn't beat out Tyler Palko.
Kurt Warner wasn't even good enough to work checkout at the grocery store.

Rudolph is arguably the 4-5 best QB from his own class which was obviously better.
He is a borderline NFL starter, which is probably a fair expectation for in the #3 QB in a class.

Serious question: I've read several scouts commenting about Sanders' attitude and sense of entitlement. Has there been a QB with these kinds of problems, basically an a-hole, who went on to have an obviously successful career? I'm thinking of QBs like Jeff George, etc who had physical tools, but were sort of head cases and put up stats, but never really stuck anywhere or won anything.

But it does seem like it’s scouts talk shite anonymously season. I wouldn’t be surprised if they have some inside joke/game where they see who can say the funniest, most ridiculous shite.

Brett Favre went to Southern Miss.

I just don't understand the whole take a QB in the first round idea. Unless there's a serious franchise starter. A Joe Burrow type player. Most teams would do better building up their roster and finding a serviceable QB later in the draft. I'm not saying they'll all be Brock Purdy, but when you're a team consistently picking in the top 10 it's b/c your roster overall has issues. Build your OL, DL, and secondary up. The Eagles are the model for this day and age of football. Taking Hurts 53rd overall, and running an offense that fits his skill set that also fits the design of the team.
